I've been digging for over a week now - Semprons are disappearing! Noone seems to be able to get them anymore! Are they officially no longer produced in favour of the new cheap dual-core stuff that's supposed to be out right now? (The new X2's with half the cache and starts at only $100-ish.)

*GASP* You mean they're phasing out old technology? WTF? Why would they do that!?!?!?!?

Don't think they're dropping them - possible they've stopped making the regular ones to ramp up production on retail box 65nm 35W Semprons and X2's expected to come out in Q2.

Yeah... that would be it. Trying to get an up-to-date AMD roadmap that's a little clearer to read.

And Mr. Wizard - you can stop being "Mr. Butthead" now. :|

You know something is up when a company drops the entire sub-$100 section off the playing field! The new X2-3600+ (same 2GHz, half the cache, $100) should be out NOW (to USA at least...) and Intel's new C2D will come down in price eventually....

Things are happening, I'm just wondering what?

From what I heard, the supply of AMD retail CPUs is drying up coz Dell (as well as other big name companies) is sucking up in large quantity. Since AMD's manufacturing capacity is relatively small compared to Intel, this 'large' quantity eats into the supply to the smaller companies and distributors.

Don't forget dual-core CPUs require ~ twice the die size and AMD has yet to mass produce in 65nm. This factor also restricts AMD's capacity in terms of unit output.

Yeah, I have heard of this 3600+ x2, folks RMA'd Sempron to AMD and they were getting this chip.

Now THAT would explain people grabbing whatever remaining Semprons might be out there. RMA single-core, get dual? no-brainer. :)

lol they might be trying to make people know which level of processor by its name, which was Intel's original idea

Okay - I panicked a bit. ;)

They dropped the lower line and 3200/3400+ is now the lowest ones you can get. NCIX just got some more in....

Well...you know why...the 2800/3000 AM2 Semprons doesn't support C'n'Q though it said yes on the box, some folks got upgraded to a x2 because of this.

Maybe I *should* have tried to snag an old 2800+! :D

It's for my mother-in-law anyways. By the time this Sempron 3200+ is too slow for her, all new stuff will be around for even less. :)

And it'll blow her AMD K6-380 CPU out of the water! (Running Win95 like a DOG with all the few junk software they've added.)
