Try 100webspace.com (http://100webspace.com)
They have a free plan that has small banner ad + google ads - (seems to have grown in size). Its free, 100MB storage, 3GB data transfer. You need a minimum amount of traffic or it will get deleted after a certain time - check terms and conditions.
I switched up to the free plan - no ads for $0.99 US per month - $12 bucks a year is fine for the service I get. It's been great for me as I use it for only a Coppermine Photogallery for family and there is not always sufficient traffic for the free plan w/ads. You can add storage extra 100 MB for extra $1 if needed.
The control panel is easy to use, support even provides help to the free accounts. Been using them for 2 years now. Occasional downtime, but rare. Always fast servers.
I am surprised that I have been with them this long - normally these free webhosting are not worth it, but this one actually has worked out to be just what I need and I don't mind paying the $12 / year for no ads.
Cheers.

NetFirms _BLOWS_
Do not go with them.
They totally block outgoing connections from inside of their shell, and you cannot FXP to them.
Even though it was only $10, they still suck

I have a reseller account with Canaca. Setup was a pain, but once the server got rolling, I've had absolutely no problems of any kind for over a year now.
I've been with the company for nearly 10 years. I just change my hosting plans as my needs change.

I know you mean Canaca, but that's a really amusing typo

I've just signed up for 3 years with godaddy. Sure its not Canadian but for 1.99 for a .com domain I figured why not? I just redirected my .ca to my .com. they charge me 6.50US a month for 100GB storage and 1TB transfer per month, plus they support PHP, mySQL, etc...
Seems like a decent deal to me.

I use...
http://www.ixwebhosting.com
Their cheapest is 3.95/month, but comes with this:
Host Multiple Domains 2
Disk Storage - NEW! 200 GB
Free Domain Regs - Free For Life!* 1
Dedicated IP Addresses 2
Data Transfer - NEW! 2,000 GB
Sub Domains 100

Pretty reliable. Had one shortage for a day, but they had emailed me ahead of time of the event and was due to backup problems, like others as well.
They offer 24/7 tech support, i get my answers in like 2 hours flat.
(If anyone does sign up for this, lemme know i got an affiliate account (we can split it 50/50):D )
