Need to hear from you guys concerning your recommendations for buying sleepset. Where is the most reasonable place for good quality mattresses?

Happy New Year to my fellow RFD'ers! May this year bring many outstanding deals:razz:

Happy New Year to you also Neela!!

The following may be another option for yourself.

I just recently shopped around and ended up buying the Obus Forme memory foam mattress, from Canadian Tire of all places! It is tough to find a whole lot of info on this mattress, nothing on CT's website, nor Obusforme. Was purchased on December 20th., early Christmass present to ourselves

I have a friend with a Tempur Pedic memory foam mattress and while I very much wanted one of those, the pricing is insane.

The Obus Forme lists for $499.00 at CT and came highly recommended from a different friend (I also had a $100.00 gift card) whom has had one for two months. It was on sale then for $400.00. It comes in a rectangular box, with convenient wheels. I carted it to my car, fit it in the back seat and brought it home and up the stairs myself.

It is shrink wrapped and rolled up inside the box. Pulled it out, laid it on the floor and cut the wrapping material off. Mattress immediately rose to it's full height of 8". We left it there for two days to get rid of any packaging or foam odors, which are common initially.

We simply placed it on top of our existing (and very dated) boxspring - no special under bedding required.

Mattress seems very firm initially and I ended up calling Obus Forme concerning this (friend had same issue initially - now swears by it). They do not actually manufacture this item, just loan their name to it. So be warned that the warranty sits with the manufacturer (http://www.zinus.com/bedding2.aspx) whom I spoke with. We were informed that our bodies would take perhaps up to several weeks to adjust to sleeping on a firmer surface than we have been. Our old bed was at least 15 years old and quite saggy in all areas.

So that is where it is today. Our bodies are "less achier" now than they were this time a week ago and I am willing to let us adjust to the mattress. Not the other way around.

Comes with decent five year warranty and the manufacturer insisted they would stand behind any defect or "sagging" issues. Stated it would long out last any traditional mattress. We will see!

Read up on memory foam if you wish and decide if it's right for yourselves. Also do a search on RFD for Obus or Canadian Tire to get some other opinions. I will give a follow-up message in a week or so when we have had a longer opportunity to test it out.

Best of Luck!

Leela,

I believe you get what you pay for and that you shouldn't cheap out (However as an RFDer, I wouldn't pay regular price for one either). Don't forget you spend more than 1/3 of your life in bed so its an investment. If you plan to keep the bed for more than 10 years (typical warranty on brand name beds) buy the best you can currently afford. If not, a 'cheapy' will do.

Before I say anything else, what is your budget?

our budget for a single or double size is no more than $700.00
