I took my 1991 240sx to Auto Folks(103-20058 Industrial ave) for aircare. The ad said aircare was free. I kept phoning the guy to see what was happening but he was evasive. I never gave him permission to do any repairs. I go there and am greeted with a bill for $881. My aircare limit is $500 for my year. He charged me $400(4 hrs) labour. The problem was a faulty computer which only needs to be plugged in. He put in a used computer . Charged me $275 for used computer. I can get used computer for $75 shipped on the net. This was aircare so I had my guard down . Didnt think he would be stupid enough to exceed my aircare limit. Aircare inspection at dealer is $125.

I don't know if you were overcharged but I do know you were duped. Isn't the driveclean a standard $30 or something like that across all regulated garages licenced to do it?

I think the OP is in Vancouver.

He must have signed something when he dropped off his car. How could the shop stay in business if it provides free service all the time?

If it is too good to be true, it probably is.

No, I didnt sign anything. The dealer always charges me
$125 so I thought this guy would be cheaper. I didnt expect anything free. I was assuming he'd hide the labour in the parts cost. The thing is that the guy would not answer my questions on the phone about costs or what was going on. He was really nervous so I knew something was up. Its the guys that are not nervous that I normally suspect.

If this is in Ontario the Consumer Services Bureau in Ministry of Government of Services is where I would take my complaint to.

ASAIK, If you dont sign authorization for them to do work on your car, you can refuse to pay.
