View Full Version : Do I care about closed CC on my FICO?

My FICO has improve a lot over the past year, up to high 700 now. I closed 3 CC I never used, but I found that only one of them reported back to EquiFax showing I had closed the CC.

The other two simply continue without any activity or status update to EquiFax. Do I care? What's the best way to make sure they report back to my credit report?

The comments that came with the report seems to suggest I have too many revolving credits. I currently have 4 CC cards that are paid off monthly, is that still too many? plus 2 LOC (no balance) and a car lease.

Would reducing the limit on these active cards help? Or do I even need to make an effort to get to 800 pt on my score? that's if it makes a difference for my next mortgage?

Thanks in advance

Too many is just that: too many. Although it is a sign that banks, etc. trust you with credit, it is also said that there is a chance that if you do owe money, you can owe A LOT. That is why I think they comment that you have too many revolving credits.

About the 2 inactive CC accounts, call the issuing bank/credit card company, to make sure they are closed, and that they should be reported to the credit bureaus. Also fill out the correction form for your report. This tells Equifax that there might be an error, and they'll look into the status of the accounts you reported.

2 LOC's both without a balance seems like a lot

i would close one of them down or even consolidate them into 1 LOC with a higher limit... especially if you're looking to get a mortgage soon
