He probably asked you to fax it either because it had already been used by the time you tried to give it to him or because you'd just tried to use an invalid 5 digit code! Others had reported it wasn't working before you posted, even if the op hadn't had time to update the first post yet.

not really a "bad" CSR per se, but perhaps s/b that was following the rules more strictly. FYI, they DO have the right to ask you to fax/email a copy of the actual physical coupon.

and like Cyanne said, it's also possible that you were trying to use an already-used coupon posted on here, hence the need for the CSR to verify if it actually belongs to you.

invalid usually only happens if it's expired or just that - invalid coupon #

already been used --- unless s/b else has access to your email, i can't see how that's possible.


it's weird the CSR told you one case "or" the other.... i'm not entirely sure about this but they should be able to check who used it....

Sounds strange coming from a newbie with only 5 posts (including this one) to his name. And what the heck are "fake" registrations?? No one's ever asked for their address or phone number here.

I'm not looking to create a contest, I was fortunate enough to obtain a coupon through an e-mail and had no current need to use it before the expiry date. RFD is built on sharing and good spirit for all.

Yesterday I had approached an individual that posted a request for a code, asking if they still required a code. I received no response to my PM. Obviously this person is no longer in need of the code, or has not logged on to pick up their messages. Given that the code is time sensitive, I felt that I should seek another person who can make use of the code.

In the future I will continue to use this method, unless the administrator frowns on this.

After reading this statement I had to take a bit of a recess to determine if it warranted a response, and not because I reflect in that statement, but because I feel that everyone who has a membership on RDF is contributing in a meaningful manner.

RFDs didn't become what it is today without the user-base. The amount of financial resources it takes to keep an operation such as this viable can only be achieved though sponsors and adverting, and the only way you can command a respectable level of income from advertisers and sponsors is to have a large active user base. And that activity is reflected in the daily bandwidth stats and the server loads on the system.

The fact that these people still continue to log on day after day, year after year makes a very loud statement to the success of this place.

One also must take in to account personal lives of all these thousands of users. I'm sure there are many who do not have the opportunity to use a computer during the early mornings or during the day in order to search out new deals to share with everyone.

I'm sure that you must spend countless hours on the computer, and the deals and information you have posted is most welcomed and greatly appreciated by all, and I thank you for that. But not everyone can be as quick as you. There have been many times when I had stumbled upon a 'deal' only to have completed a search on here to find that it had been posted already.

Drawing attention to a ratio of length of time to number of messages and labeling that with a negative statement only encourages people to remain silent, and not contribute. I believe that it would be more constructive to encourage people to post.

One thought in the back of my mind is the 2007 favorite deal poster award icon just above the Avatar, I wonder how many members with a low ratio placed a vote.

I'm not looking to start bad feelings, or to start a rash of nasty messages, I just think that people need to lighten up and feel good about what they can contribute to the RFD community. Everyone is welcomed, and everything they contributed made RFD what it is today.

honestly spking, IMO the annual awards voting poll wasn't really "fair" in that <1% of the RFD population voted (let's see... at some pt in time last yr i believe we reached 100k members and we had a contest to celebrate --- needless to say we're well beyond that population now and <1% = <1000 members voted ---> i don't believe any thread poll reached 1k+ votes )

I prefer just asking to be pm'd. All the begging in the thread for codes kind of puts me off. I've subbed to the thread, but only to find out if any spectacular 5 digit codes pop up again. I totally agree, it would be a total administrative nightmare. In the past when someone said to PM them when they needed a code, it was a hit and miss if they still needed one, or in some cases they never responded to my PM asking if they still required a code.

In the future, when I have a new code that I do not intend to use, I will post a forum message requiring a PM back to myself in-order to obtain that code.

I found it a bit over the top to expect that that when I have a code to voluntarily give away, that I should have to search through dozens of messages on a active forum trying to successfully match requests and fulfillment's. If a person wants a code bad enough, they can monitor the forum for new posts. They can also make use of the forum tools to immediately e-mail them when a new message is posted here.

Just my thoughts.

The forum tools can e-mail once a new message has been posted. I do agree it's a bit of a clunky method, but on the other hand we probably have to be a bit careful on how we 'share' codes. I'm willing to bet that someone from staples monitors this site, and if we make things took efficient in money saving code distribution, they may change the redemption rule like tying the code back to the account, or stop giving codes all together.

The forum tools can e-mail once a new message has been posted. I do agree it's a bit of a clunky method, but on the other hand we probably have to be a bit careful on how we 'share' codes. I'm willing to bet that someone from staples monitors this site, and if we make things took efficient in money saving code distribution, they may change the redemption rule like tying the code back to the account, or stop giving codes all together.

Yes. Fill in the price match form. Then make your order at the normal price with all the coupons redeemed. Then when you get your confirmation email, you quote the PM Quote that they give you, and they will adjust the price.

As long as your coupons' purchase exceeds the amount, then it will work. For example, if before the price match, your purchase is $600 and you use three $20 off $200 coupons, it'll be okay because they add up to $600. But if after the price match, your purchase is only $550, then you can no longer use three of those coupons.

RFDers watch out. I purchased the 46" sharp tv at staples.ca yesterday and applied 6 coupons. Today I found out that they are offering a free hdmi belkin cable with the purchase. So I called in today to try to get the price/item adjustment to see if I can get the promotional cable. They wouldn't offer me the cable saying that I already applied 6 coupons to the purchase and that's wrong. I asked to speak to the manager and he said that it is a loop hole that they are soon going to be cracking down on.

It is kinda stupid because if i don't mind the hassle I can just return the TV and order it again to get the cable and apply 6 coupons. :o

But again, returning the TV is already a big job not to mention finding 6 usable coupons :lol:

Did you confirm the price they charged you?

I got the same situation a few months ago, they actually dishonored my coupons without telling me, then charged me more when delivering the item. That is why they want the credit card holder to present and sign the higher price receipt. I suggest you better phone back to confrim the price.

Let's the luck guide you... Receive the confirmation email stated with the "-59.99$" with an shipping date doesn't mean you will get it.

If you want a real answer, then you need to call them and ask. Tell them that you have ordered an item yesteday, but forgot what it was and its cost... Don't tell them about that error coupon. This trick is risky, but you'll get your answer instantantly. Do at your own risk (if they notice it, they can fix it right away).

If not, wait until you receive your order and the price could be fixed in the receipt. If the price is not fixed, lady luck is within you... Otherwise, you'll probably need to return the item instore = waste fuel + more time.

when you get it deliverd, make sure to check the invoice (pking slip) for coupon deductions... if it doesn't say -$59.99, might as well reject the delivery

Unfortunately, you can't. It's a hit or miss for applying those kind of coupon. Some orders might have slipped through while some won't, like yours.
