I just spoke to someone at headoffice.... and seems like they are cracking down on coupon abuse.

which was same coupon being used many times.

Well they did attempt a solution (void any coupon codes with the same first five digits being used more than once on the same order)

Guess tons of people *STILL* kept on shoving say - three+ coupons with the *SAME* first five digits to the point where Staples just got tired of screening them and decided to limit use to one coupon per order (or to actually enforce the conditions of the coupon).

Just like they got tired of filling 150% price matches (which resulted in alot of $0.01 orders - those were the good old days :razz:).

Just got off the phone with staples...my order was on hold cause a $25 coupon I had was already used. So I call in with a different $20 code to replace it, and the service rep then tells me that I can I only use one at a time????

Here's a question...then why does your online system allow for it then?
So I ask the rep to cancel the order and to release the codes so I can place my order online since the online system seems to have no problem, she says fine and that the coupons are active again....I try placing a new order online and Now All My Codes Have Been Cancelled and can't be used!

somehow i have doubts about ^that.

based on what i've read here, it seems like if you haven't made a purchase in a while, the coupon seems to get "better" (e.g. $20off200 --> $30 off200 --> $20off150 --> etc.)
and then when you have made a purchase w/ a coupon, the "crappy" coupons start coming to your inbox =P

Yeah spoke to a couple CSRs actually and they all said the same thing...and for the most part is true since 2 of my codes were released and can be used again, however my $50 off $200 says it was redeemed already, how bizarre???

scenario 1: "same coupon" as in the same 16-digit code being "attempted" to be used multiple times. this is really only possible if the same 2 ppl have applied the same 16-digit coupon code in cart, and tried to checkout at exactly the same time, and somehow both orders go thru. (later CSRs will catch on to that, and only allow 1 order to go thru, while for the other order, the customer will be SOL b/c they'll rec'v that dreaded email saying "coupon already used, therefore discount not applied")

scenario 2: "same coupon" as in multiple 16-digit codes are used on same order but the 1st 5-digits are all identical, hence CSRs flag the order, and email is sent indicating only 1 coupon can be used

the latter scenario seems to be much more common here


which i think is because of this thread where users have good intentions and don't want to do the legwork and post their coupon and 2 dozen people try it.

you underestimate the power of the RFD effect... the # is more like upwards of a few 100 ppl (at least) :lol:


So staples figured it out and now rest of us are going to have to pay which would have been yet another free lunch on stooples.

i'm sure stooples caught on a long time ago, hence why they've become more strict as time goes....

If you have 2 coupons which have different first 5 digit codes but same user code, but only post the first one, then your user code for that set is pretty much exposed. Anyone with a brain can figure out how to change the first 5 digit codes to another valid code, and try 0 thru 9 for the checksum digit at the end to see if the code is valid/unused. Thus if you have more than 1 coupon in a set, and only post 1 of them, you're effectively posting ALL of them.

If you have a set of coupons with the same user code, I would suggest:
1. Post them all, or use the codes you want before you post the rest

I thought the coupon expired already? Have you made a previous transcation within the same period using the same coupon? However, if they denied this one, they wouldn't honour another one of the same coupon.

If your purchase was 250+ CAD before tax then you can still do price match and they will honor the price and also use coupon. Thats what I have been told in store.

arg...i ordered one of these along with a filing cabinet
Not wanting to haul it from work and throughout the parking lot, I had them ship it to my house. I figured like BB and FS they would just drop it and leave, but no....The tried once, left the notice on the door with only the time attempted. I wasn't able to call them yesterday so I call this morning. CSR said if I had written on the note for them to leave it there then they would. But of course I was calling from work. Probably around the same time, they were doing the second delivery attempt. I'm pissed cause they never checked off any options on either notice. If it says 'second attempt, please call # to reshedule' wouldn't you assume that they would then make a third attempt? Now they're sending it back to their warehouse and I lose out on the free headset.

The CSR told me I could reorder everything...but of course the headset is OOS. Why couldn't they be like Dell and have me wait a month of to until they ship my order if it's oos when I place the order? Of all the companies that except someone to sign for the package. I think stooples is the only 'major' electronics/office store that doesn't allow ship to store. At least the CSR's were quite polite sounding. End rant.

sorry to say, but last i checked, they only make 2 delivery attempts. after that, they do indeed send it back to warehouse and they ask you to "re-order"... and of course, that means you lost any/all coupons you used, and including the chance that your item may become OOS if s/b else made the order for the same item


I think stooples is the only 'major' electronics/office store that doesn't allow ship to store. At least the CSR's were quite polite sounding. End rant.

sorry to say, but last i checked, they only make 2 delivery attempts. after that, they do indeed send it back to warehouse and they ask you to "re-order"... and of course, that means you lost any/all coupons you used, and including the chance that your item may become OOS if s/b else made the order for the same item

You can sign and leave a note on the first notice for them to leave it at the door. If it something cheap like office supplies ok, but risky for like a computer or something. Better than having them cancel and return it all....

For the majority of stores, you do require the coupon physically, as they usually do not accept coupon codes themselves. I've been to 4 stores in the lower mainland trying to stack coupons that way to no avail. But of course this is the manager's decision.

it's not really hidden per se, ... if you actually recv'd a physical copy of the coupon via email/snail-mail, the coupon should indicate the SKU for the freebie

"stacking" means using multiple coupons, but I think staples policy states that you can only stack coupons that have different first 5-digit codes.
for the iPod, you can use any coupons that are "-... for purchases over $150"

you can use 1x $20 of $150 coupon. If it was over $300, you could use 2 as long as the first 5 digits are different.

I'd recommend an Ipod bigger than 8mb. That will hold 1 song, MAYBE 2.
