I got ticketed AND towed on 2:45am on a Sunday morning on Adelaide.
I didn't see the no standing sign 2am-6am.
WHY WOULD THERE BE A NO STANDING SIGN FROM 2AM to 6AM ON A SUNDAY??? --especially when I'm allowed to park there any other time of the day. I've seen signs where it's no standing Monday-Friday and it's kind of understandable for garbage collection... but Sunday??? WHY?
AND HOW COULD THEY TICKET AND TOW ME? -- Why is it legal to punish me twice for one infraction? Criminals don't have to serve time & pay a fine, why does parking enforcement allow towing and ticketing?

Maybe they want to clean the street and you are blocking?

It probably has something to do with winter months and snow removal routes.

i don't know about TO, but here you can't park on any city street at night between Dec 15 and march 15 (i think those are the dates anyhow)
snow removal issue.

Well, if you were just standing... they would have only ticketed you. But since you went one worse and parked, they have to also tow you since you aren't around to move the car.

the resident association along richmond & adelaide forced the city's hand a couple years back when condos were errected. to reduce vagrancy, loud noise, violence, they enforce all violations under the guise of "snow removal".
it's unfortunate they towed your car and i know that's a pain in the *ss - if your ticket says "standing" then you can fight it. on your court date just speak to the clerk or prosecutor and explain your point of view. they won't reimburse you for towing (because they didn't collect it) but you may have a valid point regarding which infraction was noted on your ticket. good luck.
don't skimp on parking in the club district. bad things happen to cars parked where they're not supposed to. we used to worry about drunks relieving on car tires nowadays neighbourhood locals enjoy vigilante justice.

it has something to do with you not understanding parking by laws. Its a cash grab, the government isn't trying to cover that up. You parked under a no standing sign, which is more serious then just no parking.
What you should have done is just hit any side street and parked in a no parking zone. $30 ticket and no ability to tow you unless they get 3 tickets on you (which they rarely bother to try doing)
it sucks getting towed I know, but it happens to pretty much everyone atleast once. You probably got towed to york street / lakeshore, walking distance. My first tow was from Yonge and Gerrard to St. Clair and Old Weston. $40 cab fare.
