PSP has embedded MP3, Internet Browser and plays videos.
DS has nothign. However, you can buy a flash cart that does play mp3 and videos, internet browser (given you buy a slot1 flash cart and have the specific ram pack) and it also lets you play "back-ups" *cough*.
Note that, PSP has more processing power and bigger homebrew group, which means emulators for the PSP are generally better in terms of compatibility and running smoothly. As well, since PSP has a bigger screen, watchin videos are much more comfortable than DS.
I'm a owner of DS with supercard lite. Frankly, the DS games keep me entertained. I never feel the urge to play old games on emulators, mp3s or videos. The DSlite is too big for a mp3 player and screen is too small for long videos with subtitles. But if you have short clips you want to show your friends, or if you are so bored of games you need to listen to some mp3s, you do have the option to.

Although both the PSP and DS are within the portable hand held gaming market, each system has it's own respective features and thus forms 2 different niches. It depends what you want to do with your hand held.

PSP with homebrew- emulators (PS1, SNES, CPS1, etc), PSP games at a faster clock speed, etc
PSP without homebrew- ..... :| (many, many limitations, even if you don't pirate)
DS with homebrew- DS games, cool applications
DS without homebrew- still great given the larger collection of fun games

Aren't the PSP graphics much better? After playing a few action games on the DS, it's as if the world is full of pixelated people. Perhaps I've been subconsciously gravitating towards the puzzle games because they can afford to use better textures.

PSP is nice but do u really need a handheld mp3 player or do u really feel like watching movies on it.
if not the DS is a lot cheaper and way more entertaining. plus in terms of the market, DS is kickin psp's butt in sales.

what does sales have to do with what is better feature-wise?

PSP = native mp3+video player, good graphics, psx emulator
DS = fun games (innovative and original), touch screen, also able to play video+mp3s with addon homebrew
I own both, granted, I put in a lot more PSP hours than DS, but I still don't have a favourite console. I like them both because each platform offers its own style of gaming.
DS does not cost less than a PSP btw, they are about equal if you are planning to use homebrew/backups. PSP is $280 with a 1gb memory stick, DS is $150+$100 for whatever super or m3 attachment and memory card thing you want to buy.
