Hey guys, initial plan was to buy a ~1989 240sx, but couldn't find any in my (cheap) price range. Well, instead I bought a Toyota.

1990 Corolla GTS to be exact, just under 400,000km on body, 80,000km on rebuilt engine. New exhast(2.5" piping), 1 10" rockford fosgate punch sub, clarion amp, 15" CSA 5 Spoke rims, yokohama rubber.

The car's underbody is rediculously clean. No holes in floor, and the bolts for the most part come right off without breaking!!!!!!! I had to replace the flex pipe, and the ebrake cables, good experience for my first car! (im 17 )

So without further adieu, my ae92 gts:

The first 2 pictures are recent in my driveway, and the last 2 are pictures the seller took. There is some body rust n work needed, but that will come in time,

Take care!

Now swap in a 1UZ-FE and bump it up to 600rwhp.

So the body is rusty but the underside is not? How is that possible?

Why won't it pass safety or emissions legally? You want to be driving an unsafe, polluting vehicle? I thought they taught kids about air pollution is schools these days.

So pm me if you got hookups with mechanics that'll forge a saftey and etest, will pay decent cash!!!!!!!

I won't comment about the e-test (as it has no immediate effect on your life), but forging the safety certificate? If your car can't pass that minimal set of requirements, please don't drive it until it does. You'll be a danger to yourself and others on the road. You may not think about it now, but before long I'm sure you'll stuff 5+ people in the car and their lives will be endangered too.

Out of curiosity, why won't it pass?

Looks from the thread above like you've had the car awhile already?

Just needs some body work and paint, you said in that thread. You realize that that will probably cost you several times what you paid for the car?

fine the illegal comment is out:P I learned my lesson. The car will pass the etest forsure, safety it wont because its got a slight(when I say slight, I mean the only way you can tell its leaking is due to smell) leak in the gas tank. There is nothing dripping** from the tank. I tested using cardboard :P .

So yeah, didnt that that comment would fire everyone up, so its gone :P

Take care guys, and I will be sure to post updates!!!!!!!!

They won't do the e-test if it smells like gas.

You've done the 'cardboard test', but all that is telling you is that the tank doesn't leak when the car is parked. This may mean it's leaking when you're driving, though, and that may mean fuel lines. Very common on these old Japanese cars for the fuel lines to rust out and leak.

ahh icic, gotta look into that forsure.. :|

but the smell is coming from gastank area, and a little bit of residue is found on the tank itself....maybe I should try to clean it off, maybe some gas somehow spilt onto it.... (hey, ya never know :P )

I had a similar problem while owning my 240SX (last year, actually). There is a rubber line between the tank and steel gas line. Steel line rusted and the seal was gone. Car dripped gas (along the tank down onto the road), but only when running.

Shop around for this, I had estimates ranging up to $400. I ended up replacing about 70% of that line, for a total cost of $80+tax (labour included).

and in 2001 when I got the JDM bumper + lip spoiler

didn't matter if it was FWD, this thing handled at shannonville.

after arthur sold his levin,

oooo, looks nice!!

Hmm here is my dilema, I can get a 1985 Celica GT for cheap and it dont need etest, and it passes safety when he bought it(3 months ago). It doesnt need nearly the same amount of body work as my car....what to do...

EDIT* also, can I sell a car that is not currently under my name? I got the ownership, but havent changed it over due to having to get saftey and etest

Wow...I used to have a 1990 Torrid RED Corolla GTS. I loved the car and it was also my first car. It was also my first time driving a manual transmission! I drove it home from the dealer without stalling it! I kept it 10 years and then traded it in. Aside from the rust, the only things I fixed/replaced was the timing belt and one clutch job. It handled like a charm and sure attracted a lot of chicks. I had a couple of times when someone stuck a note under a wiper blade asking if I was interested in selling it.

http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/vehicle/used.htm

If you're selling a used vehicle privately in Ontario, you must buy a Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP).

What is a Used Vehicle Information Package?

The package, which the seller must show to potential buyers and give it to the buyer of the vehicle, costs $20 and includes the following:

1. Description of the vehicle
2. Ontario vehicle registration history
3. Odometer Information
4. If there are any liens registered against the vehicle
5. Wholesale and retail values for the vehicle's model and year (on which the minimum tax payable may apply), if available
6. Retail sales tax requirements
7. Bill of sale
8. Other information such as consumer tips on vehicle safety standards inspections

It doesn't seem like you need it but most buyer will really haggle you down if you don't have it

my fuel line return has rusted on my 90 corolla, i had to replace 2 sections of it. Did it myself, bought 50 psi tubing with some stainless steel clamps and hasnt given me any trouble for a couple months now. Now if the pressure line goes, im in trouble:mad:

Thats prolly the worst rust spot, might just replace the fender. I found one for sale, its red, but I guess I can just sand it down n prime it n throw it on, shouldnt stick out too much :P

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/vip3r87/carshtuff004.jpg

Thats the best underbody shot I got. Just took it, I can take one during the day. Its got 2.5" exhaust from end to end. Too damn loud, anyone who can hook me up with muffler service it would be greatly apreaciated lol

How Much Did You Pay For That Car??..

all i can say is under 1000

Bondo it up and it'll be as good as new!

Not sure about the bad exhaust job though..

Samir
Jan 4th, 2007, 12:48 AM
That rust seems to have rusted through the entire fender (there seems to be a hole there). That means a sanding job won't be particularly useful, as it will continue to corrode on the inside and re-surface in 6-12 months.

dolphie
Jan 4th, 2007, 11:02 AM

sorry you can't get more than 700 for your pos anymore :)

so then, why did you?

all i mean is that was a pointless post
not at all pointless. i was answering the question of another poster....from this very thread :)

yeah you do got a point lol.

But the second part of your first post wasn't necessary, making fun of my car and all.

I guess I overreacted, but comeon, you didn't have to make fun

dolphie
Jan 4th, 2007, 01:20 PM

alright I will aggree on that. But dont call her a pos, she has feelings too...

I need help with car audio again, im getting damn frusterated with this sh*t. Hey, got the amp today in the mail from smartass! The amp is a t2-1400. My system still doesnt work. When the amp is on, is that U supposed to be lit up? because if so there is no power getting to it....very frusterating. I did see a spark at one point at the +12V connection, so power was getting to the amp I guess...the fuse from the battery isnt broken, but the glass around it has shattered. I assume that must be replaced, and it will be asap. But I just dont understand. Maybe my original amp wasn't busted to begin with.......And even before the fuse glass was broken it didnt work, it shattered due to me being unpatient and too rough when plugging it in....

I ripped out the carpet to make sure the RCAS and Remote arent broken or obstructed, and they arent. I got 2 ground wires bolted directly to the chassis, and all paint is removed to make sure of a clean ground. I tried one of my dads subs(thinking maybe my sub was shot). Still nothing. I dont know what else to do?!
