You can get them on eBay for $60.

you'll find it cheap on ebay. There's a seller that has been mentioned in this forum before.
If you're just looking for a quick code read, see if PartSource (or was it Princess Auto) still offers it for free.
Also, depending on the car you have, you may be able to retrieve the code without the reader.

I was trying to avoid eBay if necessary -- just an extra step! I called PartSource, and unfortunately they don't even do testing -- they sell the OBD2 testers, but don't use them in their shop.
