That would defeat part of the purpose of your portable GPS. I have mine bottom left windshield, its un-obstrusive and easy to access.

no pictures is fine

has anyone tried to mount it under their radio?

I prefer to put it in the bottom left of the windshield between the gauge pod and the A pillar. On some cars and most large trucks I have to put it on the top left of the windshield under the sunvisor, since some windshields are raked back quite a quit putting in the lower position would make it unreachable.

Putting it on the centre of the windshield is nice if you have a passenger that can use the GPS, but it can be distracting after a while.

If the car you have has a sunroof, you could always try the cupholder or lower dash. Not the best location in terms of usefullness, but anything stuck to the windshield using suction cups becomes a 1 pound projectile during an accident.
