Hey Folks:

I just got a piece of literature in the mail from CAA which pretty much states that since I've been such a good member w/ CAA Plus that they now want to promote me to CAA Premier. The perks are extra towing km's (320, up from 200) and some other things....catch is that it costs $26.50 to upgrade.

Has anyone received the same info from CAA, or am I truly special?

Hi i work at CAA
premier is an invitation only type membership.
some advantages include when you call in youre call goes into a "premier que"
supposedly less waiting time.. another is car rental of some sort.

Hi joey

im not in the premier dept but as far as i know
its a really good deal, seems like if youre premier
you get certain perks etc that other caa members dont.
for an extra 120km tow its definetly worth it
tows are very very expensive

What are the other perks? From 200km to 320km, if you're that far out from civilization, you'll probaly wait forever for a tow truck anyways hehe

Good member, as in haven't used it yet?

It's perfect coverage for Shannonville. ...if you blow up your car on track day and need to tow it back to Toronto or Sauga or Hamilton, etc.

Hi i work at CAA
premier is an invitation only type membership.

guess it depends on where you are because in BC you can just sign up for premier without any type of invitation.

I just got the invite as well.
Although I have to say when they want me to pay more money, it doesn't really make me feel special. More like a back handed slap in the face.

just got this invitation again today... for $13.13 upgrade to premier for the remainder of this year's contract, which i think is only 4 or 5 months.

It's my 2nd year with CAA and I got the 'invitation' too. No claims so far. For $25 more, I'll pass.

As in the premier queue, I can always get others to tow my car and make claim to CAA I guess, if it's too long:cheesygri

About a month after I took the upgrade, I picked up a 3" bolt in my brand new tire. It had been a bad year for car crises. But, thanks to the premier service, no worries. It took the fellow a little longer than usual to get to me; it was Thanksgiving weekend and he covers a very, very big area, but he changed to the donut very quickly and actual time for the change was amazingly fast. It cost me a little over $4.00 (sales tax)to rent a car for the day while the car was in the garage getting a free replacement tire (road hazard was covered in the price of the tire)

You know what? It's only too much to pay if you never have to use the benefits of the extra coverage. It's like every other kind of insurance in that you pay and pay and pay. Unlike other insurances, it doesn't get jacked up because you actually use it.

I've been towed back to Boston from 1 1/2 out on the Mass Pike. I've been towed back home from a Toll Booth on the NY thruway. I've been towed back to my garage any number of times, to say nothing of the dead batteries and tire problems. Then there's locking myself out of the car. Oh yeah, did I mention running out of gas?

I go for years and I don't use it; then I have a rash of stupid things happen. I do a lot of driving. It's nothing to put 3,000-4,000 Km on it in a week if I'm on a road-trip vacation. Best money I spend on the car!;)

No, back to Boston; My sister did get a tow from Clappison Corners to Boston though, but it was as a result of an accident. The figure $900.00 comes to mind, but I'll try to track down the real cost on a flatbed. That was about 10 years ago, so rates might have changed.
