If you people didn't heard in the news lately, Rogers is going to make some changes to their channel lineup starting February 2007. The reason of that is that new channels will be added to the lineup. They are:

- Turner Classic Movies

- BBC World

Here's what the channels will look like in my area (sorry I couldn't make a chart though). These channel changes are unofficial, as Rogers could make any changes at anytime:

These channel placement changes could vary from market to market if Rogers is currently a sole provider in your area (IIRC, All of Durham Region, Toronto, Mississauga, York Region and Brampton is served by Rogers).

The Asterisk indicates that the channel will be moved into the digital platform. For those of you without digital boxes, your out of luck. You might have to get a digital box if you wish to continue watching those channels. What's your view on these changes?

Thanks for the heads up. I don't watch any of those channels though, mostly just FOX, Global, CTV.

Thanks, Speedvision is moving to 43 for me, from 46.

It's not going to be digital-only for me though! :D

Ive been a digital customer for a while, Sometimes it pays the price to be early adopters to new technology.. Digital is going to be the future, why stay on analogue?

Not everyone wants/needs digital. Why pay extra if you dont want it, or dont want tv enough to warrant it.

If they move speed into the digital channels for me, that will be the last straw I am going to take from rogers. I have had enough of their price raising and horrible customer support and if they take away something that I have been paying for for 3 years, and obviously they won't lower the price, that is unacceptable.

Speed is one of my most watched channels, and of course Rogers does not have to courtesy to ask its loyal customers about any changes, let alone offer any compensation to them.

Because

1) I'm benefiting because of Rogers' Error, getting the full analog lineup and only paying for Basic.
2) Digital Terminal is another $3
3) I don't like 'channel surfing' with Digital
4) I already have the 'menus and schedules' with my Viewsat Ultra on Beverly.

So, you really did pay the price to be an early adopter, eh?

In some cases it is cheaper to get digital then stay analog.

As of feb 1

Basic Pack $38.00

Includes 1-55

Digital Basic Pack $36.00

1)Free basic Terminal

2)Includes 1-55 plus time shifting

3)$20.00 credit to be used on rod.

4)Requires 12 month contract.

So what would you do for a house that has 3 TVs used atleast twice a day :P

No doubt Digital has his advantages, like uniform picture quality regardless of channel, without the need to buy a inline cable amp.

I really think with this promo more and more will get away from analog. If you don't watch tv alot its a toss up your saving $2.00 going digtal but its a 12 month contract. You would be able to break it but would have to pay % to get out.Right now i ma paying $145 a month thewre want to raise all packages up by 5% in the spring. We have 5 tvs all there own digital boxs analog is not even a choice for us.

your gonna have to eventually move to digital, its the next logical upgrade path to analogue cable tv. Losing out on channels is something you just have to "live with" if you dont want to budge. Just look at Rogers, theyre shutting down their Analog/TDMA Cellphone towers in just a few months, wHY? because it costs them more money such as bandwith and spectrum costs when they dont generate enough revenue based on the ammount of people using it. plus its outdated technology. The same will happen to Analogue Television real soon in the not so distant future. One day it will be really costly to maintain analogue equiptment at the cable head end, and the ratio of analog customers will be low it will not make sense to keep it in existance. I truely cant wait for this day, Technology HAS to evolve, we cant be sitting here using outdated technology because its our choice? nope. I'm glad rogers is making this decision. I would kick everyone off analogue too, even if it means I have to give them all a Free or discounted STB..

Just get a decent box with atsc tuner, or buy a newer tv with it built in. Get a decent antenna set up, and you're set. All the major networks can be picked up and you won't need to pay a cent after the initial set up.

Anything you can't watch can easily be downloaded or found online the next day anyway.

I'm still on analog because I don't like getting the digital boxes and i can split the cables myself :P

In terms of american ota.IN the next few years they will be no longer avaible via ota.

Please elaborate on this? OTA has been a perfectly viable alternative to the Rogers Basic package, for me anyway.

I went OTA this year--bought the antenna, STB, etc--and contrary to what you are suggesting, I have only seen available OTA channels steadily increasing.

I pull in about 20 total so far, with more stations scheduled to come online in the coming months. All of these are digital, and roughly half of them are in HD. If you have any info that indicates that there is some kind of impending end to this, I would love to know..

I do, quite often. There is no impending shutdown. There is a remote possibility that if you are in a sparsely populated/remote area, CBC and some other Canadian broadcasters might not want to upgrade their broadcasting equipment to keep providing you with tv.

At least in major markets, Digital OTA *is* and for the foreseeable future will remain being a free (aside from setup costs), 100% legal, AND better picture/sound-quality alternative to having a basic analog Rogers package.

Bud do a deep search analog will be gone in 2008.In 2009 there will be no such thing as analog in the cable world.

You're right, I should have added 'the phasing out of analog cable' as ANOTHER reason why Digital OTA is a great alternative to Rogers Basic analog cable. Thanks for backing up my point..?

Check your facts before you make stupid statements. OTA is completely different from analog and you are correct that analog will be shut down in the future. That is a good thing, because it means a lot more towers will switch to digital and increase their signal strength, which means more free OTA for us.
