What brand do you think is relatively better?

I like Asus and IBM/Lenovo, but I usually buy a Dell for the price.

I treat it as an expendable investment, instead of one that'll last me for 10+ years.

Wow...didn't know Asus was that popular.

I know IBM is the best, but I prefer Toshiba, I think its building quality is close to IBM, but with a much lower price tag. I have 3 Toshiba Notebooks with me now, one Tecra, two Satellite, Only complain is the Fuji HDD in Satellite A100-SK9 always giving rattling tickle sound, I checked Fuji HDD website, it says it's normal, but sometime it really gets annoying. The other two Toshiba are equipped with Hitachi HDD and no such sound.

I have a MacBook and I couldn't be happier with it. Really slick.

I am also curious why you omitted Apple notebooks.

My first notebook was a Fujitsu Lifebook which was great (the experience). Build quality started to wither away after a year with discoloring of the palm area but much like Apple, it held its resale value. HP/Compaq are pretty on par with Fujitsu. Right now I have a MacbookPro and couldn't be happier. It's one slick notebook.

Alienware, they look nice and their specifically made for gaming. (which means its fast!)

Or the ASUS lamborghini, just because i love lambos :)

Because I'm not in the market for Apple but thanks for your suggestions.

Dell Business line... Latitude or Precision.

You pay more.. but the build quality is excellent and the support is amazing.

I've got an apple, and for the opposite reason.

iBook G4 1ghz, running 10.4. Battery died but its almost 3 years old so its all good :-)

Runs circles around my classmates pee-cee laptops in day to day usefulness. My battery lasts long enough to get some work done

I second wonton with AlienWare, they are pretty sexy and fast machines but they are freakin expensive.

Ditto.
Just to clarify, personally, I dislike laptops.
But,
Have to decide/order laptops for others.

Cons:
Just a heads up,
Dell is improving somewhat but don't be surprised for 45+ minutes telephone time to resolve an issue that they cause.
eg. Wrong configuration of laptop, defective laptop ...

As for Alienware,
They were bought out by Dell last? year.

I have a MacBook Pro, why you didn't add Apple is beyond me, they are starting to get mainstream, alot of parents are getting their kids Mac Laptops which can run both Mac and Windows to bring to school.

In terms of IBM, didn't they sold their PC Business? Should have named it Lenovo instead.

This poll is kinda flawed...

Even though I love my MBP to death, I'm sick of hearing the mantra that they run both OSX/Windows as if that's reason enough to buy them. Apple has all but 2 offerings. MacBook and the Pro. There isn't much choice there.

Design wise, I like the Compaqs/HP. The DV/V series are around $600 which is Acer territory but with much better support/quality.

I like fujitsu's laptop.

Another vote for Fujitsu here. I use my laptop to watch videos/movies and some graphics work and the screen quality is among the best in the business, on par with the Sony's and Macbooks. My friends with Asus', HP's, Gateway's, and Toshiba's all drool over it. They aren't cheap though...

On another note, Dell's are alright but I hate the two low-end Dell Latitude laptops I have from work. The screen's viewing angle is simply horrible. My coworker's XPS looks pretty nice though.

I never said that's the main reason to get them, I just said alot of parents are now able to get Macs for their kids for this reason, simply because most campus do have windows requirements.

Panasonic Toughbooks. Although I recommand against getting it if you don't get a discount on them.

I own a dell laptop, but won't be buying another one. It's averaging a MB failure a year.
I really like IBM/Lenovo, but started buying HP's for work. The HP's have been flawless, unlike the dell's. My next laptop will most likely be a Macbook.

this is like asking which domestic company is better DODGE, CHRYSLER, FORD or GM?

its all the same crap inside. dont buy a laptop because of the CASE/SHELL/color.

its the components that matter...processor(intel/AMD... celoron(sempron)/centrino(duo/core/2) sizes of RAM/HDD/OBM(onboardmemory)/battery cells/LCD screen) bigger is better for most.

business line = over priced crap.

all companies have their good/bad laptops.

Who said I was buying a laptop just because it looked pretty? So let me get this straight, you are lumping IBM laptops with MDG laptops just because the insides are the same?

Yeah... if Apple sold their laptops at a price mere mortals could buy it. Their lower end **** doesn't impress me. But I have already answered your question earlier in this thread.

The IBM/Lenovo business units are the best, but I cannot use their funky, non-standard "Fn where Ctrl should be" keyboards, so I go with the Dell Latitude line. These are very nice, and support has been killer good so far.

business line = over priced crap.

Gimme a break. I own a Dell Latitude 620 and my wife owns a Dell Inspiron 640M, and while hers is a nice little machine, it's just a cheap piece of plastic next to the thinner and lighter Latitude with its magnesium-alloy casing and steel hinges.
