I'll be visiting Japan in March, and thinking to buy a digital camera there. I know there are stores which sell the "international-use" versions with English manuals. But I'm interested in the "Japanese versions" which often feature better designs and functions. Japanese display is not a problem for me as I'm familiar with the language. However, I do have concerns about the image software that comes with the camera. Will it only run on Japanese Windows? My PC cannot display Japanese characters. Or can I use other software to download pics from the camera to my PC?

Last time I was there I checked out a whole bunch of digital cameras. To my surprise, a lot of them had English menus and software in English, eventhough the cameras were made for the Japanese market only.
Just take a stroll through the Akihabara district and I'm sure you'll find an awesome digicam with English menus (and most likely English software). If nothing else, you'll still be able to use the digicam (even if it has Japanese menus) and just use a card reader to transfer all the pics to your PC.
In any case, I don't think you should worry too much about it.
