Hi All:

My parents' 27" CRT tv is giving signs of giving up and going to the tv cemetary. My mom wants to be like the jones and get a cool new bigger tv. They have a RCA.

They don't know or really care for HD, digital, etc. They have bellexpressvu with the basic receiver. They've had two tv's in 30 years  I had thought DLP would be good and not too expensive but I keep reading that LCD's would be better. Dead or stuck pixels worry me on the lcd.

Anybody have any suggestions on what direction I should recommend for them as a reliable long lasting solution? For them the SD has to display well since I know they will not be paying for HD.

Thanks,

felix

With prices of LCD's dropping everyday, you can pick up a 32" for $700 or 27" for $400 these days ... most of the smaller ones are EDTV 480i, which is perfect for watching SD content. Depends on their budget really and how often they want to upgrade. If you're looking for a budget one, watch the hot deals forum for latest deals on cheap LCD TV's (for higher end models, you're paying more money so you likely won't see them in hot deals, at least the one i bought was never mentioned but it's the highest end 32" Samsung model :)).

Felix - They will want a 40". Budget is reasonable ~ $2k. They won't want to upgrade for 7-8 years.

EDTV is the best for sd viewing?

which samsung is yours?
