Newsflash:
Microsoft Extends
Xbox 360 Warranty to One Year

This holiday season, shoppers can buy with added confidence as Microsoft expands its warranty coverage of the Xbox 360™ video game entertainment console from 90 days to one full year. Microsoft has announced that any Xbox 360 purchased in both the United States and Canada will include this added warranty coverage, and it even applies to those who have already purchased an Xbox 360 console and who are still within their first year of ownership!

Effective today (December 22), the one year warranty is now the standard for all Xbox 360 consoles. Customers that experience hardware issues with their Xbox 360 within one year of purchase will have their consoles repaired at no cost. Moreover, the new warranty policy is retroactive, so consumers that may have already paid for out-of-warranty Xbox 360 repair within one year of the console's purchase will be eligible for reimbursement of their console repair charges.

"Our number one priority for the Xbox 360 is customer satisfaction," said Jeff Bell, Corporate Vice President of Global Marketing for Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business. "Now, in addition to Xbox 360 offering features such as jaw-dropping high definition graphics, an amazing variety of more than 160 games, and social online and entertainment experiences found on Xbox Live®, this warranty upgrade is an exclamation at the end of an already compelling home entertainment offering."

Customers who have already paid for repairs within their first year of ownership can expect reimbursement checks for the amount of their console hardware repair in approximately 10 weeks. These will be automatically distributed, so customers do not need to proactively contact Microsoft. Customers who have any questions regarding this policy change or who have experienced any hardware issues should visit: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/contact/ or call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX and speak to an agent.

This warranty extension only applies to the hardware and software of the actual Xbox 360 console itself. It does not apply to any Xbox 360 accessories, including any that may have been packaged with the console at the time of its original purpose. Xbox 360 accessories retain their original 90 day warranties. For full information on the Xbox 360 warranty, click here.

Yahoo! Last night, I heard that they would extend to 1 year for the purchase made from today. I bought a XBox on Monday. I worried about if I need to refund and buy again. It is not easy to refund because of it is a company gift and people in the office needed to jump all the hoops to get the price under $500 including tax for the GRAW package. Now, this is perfect.

So how does this work then? For people who already bought an extended warranty from Microsoft.

My 90 day warranty ended on October 24, 2006. I bought a 1 year extended warranty from Microsoft about 4 months ago for $30 CAD and I received documentation that this 1 year extension will end on October 24, 2007. So since they extended the warranty to 1 year, does it mean that my warranty that expired on October 24, 2006 will expire in July 2007? And my purchased 1 year warranty will begin in July and expire July 2008 instead of October 2007??

Reading the first paragraph should answer your question unless you mean that you want to extend to more than 1 year.

The rep kept mentioning 3 years, I kept asking him "It's a total of 3 years now?" and then he'd mumble and pretend not to hear me...guess this explains it.

Poking around online during lunch, I think those with extended warranties now get a total of 3 years. Will call later to confirm...

I called 1 800 4 myxbox and according to what they told me what you're saying is correct. Your purchased warranty would get added onto the new free one year warranty once the free warranty expires. They also said we should receive documentation stating the change within the next 10 weeks.

MS finally smartened up. Now, I wonder what happens when you go and EXERCISE these new warranties. I wonder if they pull a Honda and proclaim their product to be no fault hehe.

I missed purchasing a 2 year extended warranty during my initial 90 days. Does this announcement mean that I can now purchase the 2 year extended warranty since there is no longer a 90 day restriction?

how much is the extended warranty?

Others have stated that it's $50 for two years.

I'm wondering how the warranty works when you've received the XBOX as a prize. I won in the Pepsi contest and so I have no receipt (or anything dated) for warranty purposes.

others have stated in other threads you don't need receipt.....all you need is serial number found on back of the console.....that's all they will ask for.

So does that mean that new owners can purchase the extended warranty a year down the road?

I just won a 360 and I don't want to get the extended warranty for a while.

I was told that you can purchase an extended warranty anytime during the period of your original warranty. You may want to call to confirm that, but I believe you have the one year to buy it.
