How do you guys feel about them? Can they get amazing deals that us normal people don't have access to? Or can I just make phone calls and get quotes like they do and get the same deals without having to pay extra because of their involvement.

You dont pay extra for a brokers services, the ins. co. pay them a commission. Most ins. co. that deals w/ brokers are exclusive to brokers (meaning they dont sell any other way) while direct sellers (td, directprotect, belair direct, etc) do not sell thru brokers but have their own call centres. There are some companies that have "divisions" that enable them to do both. Not all brokers deal w/ the same companies. Some brokers deal w/ only 3 companies, some may underwrite for 10. When you call a broker they preety much decide based on variety of reasons where they will market you, could be price, could be underwriting reasons (some company may be okay w/ 1 or 2 tickets, some better for young drivers, some cheaper with 2 drivers, etc) or the ins. co. will only let them take a car ins. if they are also insuring a house, could be a lot of reasons. Direct writers have salaried staff and only write business for themselves. Pricing between companies varies a great deal. A company could be the cheapest 1 year and fall to 5th the next.(they all have to apply every year for new rates with the insurance gods). Your best bet is to call a few brokers and a couple of direct writers. Take note of the information asked from your first call since this will be asked pretty much by all. I hope this helps.
