Is this adapter any good? Does anyone have used this transmitter? How would be the sound quality in a small city?

i have an fm transmitter that has 4 usb plugs up front.. had to take it apart and adjust a pot inside to change the frequency.. not very good
the part that makes it all crap is it can only provide 1.5 watts to all 4 usb ports, so i can't charge my phone AND run the mp3 player.
that usb flash one would be more interesting to me if it would provide +5V over the usb link

It seems you have a crappy mp3 transmitter (of course, ebay) more like the one i am looking for. How will be the sound quality??..never tried one b4. Since, this version has only one usb output, it shd be well enough to charge ur mp3 player. FYI, u have the option to plugin a usb memory drive to play mp3 format songs..remote feature seems to be handy..any suggestions on this one..

I do notice that you have to turn the radio way louder than normal on mine, compared to CD or regular FM.. mine's obviously not a quality fm transmitter

Yup, my thoughts exactly. So i bought one yesterday. When it arrives, I'll post here again
It also comes with that long wire, suposedly broadcasts better? Who knows. I HOPE Sony ones sound better than a non-brand name one.
Its $29.99 + tax... oh well, not sooo bad. A Belkin II is selling for $40 at FS and BB right now. So heck, why not.

2 quick questions..
does the 3ft cable has 3.5mm (obviously) or 2.5mm (suprisingly) jack?
I will be surprised if this unit acts as a standalone mp3 player with an external usb memory stick?

The cable if you are talking about the one i think you are, is a transmitter. Not a jack for the MP3 player.

So, you cannot connect ur mp3 player other than usb port? I wonder why? Most of the fm transmitters have an option to connect with 3.5mm jack of external CD/mp3 player.

The other end of the cable connected to the transmitter has 3.5mm jack.

Not sure if I understand your statement. Here's what I think this Sony one can do:
Plug MP3 player into the device, it will broadcast it to a FM station. Then, at the same time, you can connect a USB cable from the MP3 player to the device as well. This will charge the MP3 player.
But it does state this charging feature only works with Sony MP3 players. But it may work for other brands.

Just tried the Sony FM transmitter out this morning in my Accord.
It was not that good. In Toronto, there is practically NO radio FM station that is NOT used. Sometimes it was stong, and I can hear the song through the car radio, but it was like picking up a weak FM station, static, etc.
So to me, it is not good enough to listen to. I'd rather plug in ear phone and drive with them !! (Not sure if that's legal).
Ya, so na, it wasn't that good at all. Maybe if you were outside the City of Toronto, there will be less radio stations to jam up with.

another disappointment product from SONY. Sorry to hear that and thanks for the short review. Here at 3r, there are only a few radio stations (10, i guess or even less). So, i do have enough options to tune in.;)

I wouldn't say its Sony's fault. Its just that Toronto has so many radio stations and they signals are so powerful. My other friends with their Non-Sony FM transmitters also say its static-ky.

I recently bought a Kensington fm transmitter, from wal-mart. I have had no issues and very happy with it. I googled some reviews and most of the ppl concur.
fwiw: the Scosche line of fm transmitters get awesome reviews too. I struggled to find any in Canada though. Found one in wal-mart too, hidden below some cables.

To rfdrfd: I admit! Are those two wires connected to the transmitter is for antenna and 3.5mm jack?
My 1 cent for Toronto RFDers (basically, i am not good at electronics),
If you can connect your external antenna to a toggle on/off switch and when the switch is in off mode, you have more chances on eliminating most part of the strong external FM signal that interrupts sony's transmission. This can be done more easily by disconnecting the external signal receiver.

use 104.9 as the station. it is the best for me. i am in hamilton and when i head up to toronto on this station it still works flawlessly. however, i have the iRiver transmitter which i don't think should make much of a difference. try out that station and see how it goes.

CORRECTION!! I stuck the magnetic end of that wire like the manual says to the passenger seat's underneath metal bar, and WOW, what a difference.
When its working good (in a good location while driving), I'd say the sound is 95-98% good. Quite enjoyable.
90.1 works pretty good mostly. But let me try that 104.9 tomorrow. Thanks!
Gee, I guess it is good to read the manual eh?

Hell no..yes, if u got lot of money. Personally, i have no problems with Sony and if u do have some static issues, it is all because u live in Toronto.
FYI, all of these transmitters were MIC (made in china)..All transmitters use the standard frequency modulation to transmit signals wirelessly. The market price solely depends on (in priority) brand, place of manufacture, features, finishing and quality of the chip.:D :D Either kensington or Sony or ebay, no noticable improvement in the quality of sound.
Merry Christmas and happy new year :)

Yup, absolutely. Because these FM Transmitters simply plug into the earphone hole (port) of the MP3 player. Not the iPod special connectors.
So ANYTHING with a hole for your earphones will work. Even Old Walkmans, Archos, Zen, etc.

hehe, excellent question. Its hard to answer because it depends on WHERE (which City or non-city) you are using it in.
Sony - I'm in Toronto and its quite hard to get a station empty enough to hear it clearly, but someone else posted here said they got it pretty clear because he is outside the City.
Kensington - one person posted here saying it was quite good. Not sure if he was in the City or outside.
The Sony one has an extra wire that acts as a flexible transmitter, so I ASSUME it would be better.
I guess the only true way is to try it out yourself. Look carefully at their refund policy. And open the packages CAREFULLY, so you can at least bring it back as if it was never opened.

It is me someone else. I second rfdrfd. Sony comes with a lenghty antenna, which when u stick it at the right place, u feel sony is better.
It seems that u need to connect both USB (for charging) and 3.5mm cable (for music) to charge and hear the music.
All above, if u live in big cities like toronto, u have to compromise on sound quality. anyways, it is not bad.
