I'm moving to the US in a few months and I'm not sure how I can build up credit there so that I can get a phone and other things as soon as I move there.

Someone told me to get as many credit cards there as I can but a lot of the stores wouldn't let me to apply unless I had a Social Security number which I don't have yet..

Anyone know of any credit cards that I can apply for with a SIN? and online?

If you have an American Express Credit Card, notify them of the move and let them know that you want to apply for an American American Express (heh, play on words).

AMEX is the ONLY Credit Card company that transfers it's customer base from one country to another. Visa and/or Mastercard do not.

If you don't have one, you'll have to get a secured visa or mastercard in the states to start building your credit. I'd suggest you do this as quickly as possible as the process generally take 4-6 weeks.

AMEX is your best bet in either case.

when i was in california, macys approved me for their store credit card...

Why not just open up a border account in the states. There have been many discussions about opening up an account with BOA, which in turn will send you a check card. They'll actually use your Canadian Credit rating to issue you a Visa. Do a search, I've seen it pop up many times.
