[I know I posted this in another thread response... but I need an answer before tomorrow]
What should I REALLY be paying for a GM extended warranty.... does anybody now what the dealership actually pays GM for the product?... I don't think GM sell direct...(their website says go to a dealer)... I have got the dealer down on the warranty price.... but I need to know how low they really can go... they are offering 2 years (40k) at $1585 (originally $1885) for the GM Protection "plus" with $100 deductable
Can anyone help here???

Are they forcing you to buy it right away?
We had the option to buy the extended warranty right before it expired on our Caddy, but ended up not buying it.

well... they always tell you that you can only buy it at the time you pick up the car.... I know that is a flat out lie (as is their contention that the protection plan price goes up in January every year!;) ).... but I do actually have money to spend on it right now and I would love a decent warranty after the 5000k Optimum one runs out....
I am surprised that the real cost is a secret these days....
update - another dealer just quoted me $1285...

maybe if you're buying a toaster, but for a car that you're planning to keep for more than 4 years it may not be a bad idea.

Is this a third party warranty or a direct GM warranty? the insurer makes a big difference. A third party warranty (like coast-to-coast) will do **** for you. They put so many stipulations inside with ambguous wording, and try very hard to escape any labilities..

direct GM warranty - it's basically the Optimum warranty that they give for 3 months extended over 2 years.

Is this a new vehicle? or one that's about to have its mfg warranty expire? To give you an idea I just purchased a new suzuki SX4 JX awd they offered me a 3yr platnium plan w/ free yearly rustproofing and inspection for $1660 and $0 deductible. This warranty is offered directly from Suzuki (Protection Plan). I'm sure there are hugh margins on this service as the salesperson was eager to drop prices (I'm sure i can get him down to $1360).
