I was wondering that what LCD monitor manufacturer do you people suggest? The reason that I ask is that I'm planning to upgrade to a flat panel LCD monitor, 17" to 19" and uses an analog SVGA port. My Nvidia RIVA TNT2 32MB AGP video card does not have a port where you can connect a DVI monitor directly to a port unless a changer is provided.

What brand of LCD monitor do you people suggest?

what exactly do you do?
game?
graphic design?
movies?
do you have a price range?
The lower end Dell 20" is 299 on sale normally and that's a good price for a decent monitor

I recommend the Dell 1907FP. It's a full-featured 19" display with all the bells and whistles (VGA and DVI input), 4-port USB2.0 hub, height-adjustable stand that also tilts and rotates the display.

Those go for $250 at the Dell sales.

What's your budget? Recommend a dollar amount and we'll suggest the best one you can get within your price range.

Since your video card is fairly old, I do not think it would support widescreen resolutions. I'm just guessing here. You'd never know unless you try. Good thing for those 15 day return periods from bestbuy/fs/staples eh?

I think a 19" LCD is more realistic for a video card of that age. Almost all lcds come with standard VGA analog ports (correct me if i'm wrong here). You shouldn't have to worry about compatibility problems. I know very well that a Geforce 2 GTS 32MB card can run a 19" lcd without fail.

The brand and model suggested by Oversized Rooster is about the best bang for the buck you can get on a 19". 19" lcds, strangely, still cost above $200.

For $30 bucks more you can get a decent 20" widescreen such as this (http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10690MN4179&vpn=FP202W&manufacture=BENQ)

But that means you also have to dish out an extra $50 i'd say for a good video card that supports widescreen resolutions. Perhaps a radeon 9800 pro AGP card will do. Though I think the $20 dollar cards such as the radeon 9250 will be sufficient. However, for 30 bucks more you get much more raw speed from the radeon 9800 pros.

Completely agree. I'm not into widescreens myself (I prefer dual LCDs side by side), but if you're going to invest in a widescreen, 20" is the minimum size. Don't bother getting a 19" widescreen - it's a waste. 20 and above is where widescreen shows its stuff.

Sometimes I occasionally watch movies and just play some games (through a DOS emulator).

I'm planning to spend between $150-200. Unless there is a deal on Boxing Day, i will get the thing on boxing day.

As for Video cards, what video cards do you people suggest? My computer can only support 1x/2x and 4x AGP.

At least go with a 19 inch LCD, there's more return in value than getting a 17 inch. Here are some suggestions:

Dell 1907FP works great for me. It's a 19" model.

Since your video card is fairly old, I do not think it would support widescreen resolutions. I'm just guessing here. You'd never know unless you try. What is the natural widescreen resolution of a 20" panel?

What is the natural widescreen resolution of a 20" panel?Native resolution on a 20" wide is 1680x1050.
Be sure to check the model of your videocard to see if it will even support this resolution.
