Hey all,

I am having a huge of problem with my 97 Sunfire GT. The anti-theft system is activated so the car will not start. The dealership said they cannot disable the anti-theft system because it is on the circuit board and want $1400 to do exploratory reinstalls to try and figure out what is triggering it. It's xmas so there is no way I can afford that, especially on a $3000 car.

Does anyone know where I could get a bypass installed?

I assume the guys who put in remote starters put in temporary bypasses in but I need a permanent option. I am in the East York/Leaside area in Toronto and will have to get it towed to wherever the work needs to be done. I was looking at bypasses on ebay, but my wife will kill me if I don't get this fixed by xmas.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a while? Disconnecting the battery for a while will reset the computer. Maybe that is all it needs?

What type of anti-theft is this? An after market device? If it is, is it part of an alarm system? Part of a remote start system? Find out where it was installed, who makes it and, have someone completely remove it and put your car back to stock. It is, after all, just a device spliced into your wiring system.

Yes I have tried the battery overnight as well as all of the tricks like keeping the door open and the key in for 15 minutes. I am open to any other suggestions, but I have been scouring the web and nothing is working so far.

It is the factory GM Passlock I system that comes with the 97 Sunfire. It could be either a tumbler problem or another ignition issue that is activating the system, but at this point I am just looking to disable it. If another problem arises I can deal with that, because the dealer said it could be a number of things. The passlock system cuts off the fuel supply after 2 seconds - so I know the car is running fine - making it super annoying.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep em comin...

Is this of any help? They are to bypass for installation of a remote start system but it may help just to disable the passlock.
