No one really knows. Heck, few people really knew there'd be a mass shortage in the first place! The end of the holiday season will help a lot, but I'd say it will be easy to get one by late winter.

It'll definitely end, for sure by the time the next gen are announced. As previous poster said no one predicted this mass shortage.

To put things into perspective... the DS has been in short supply in Japan ever since the Brain Training craze (it's been nearly selling out every week).

In fact on my trip there I only saw it in stock a couple of times by chance but it was never the colour I wanted (usually I would only find the pink one :( )

There are going to be FOUR MILLION Wii's out in North America by the end of 2006. I would say there will be AT LEAST another 4 million available in the 1st quarter of 2007. Obviously, Nintendo realizes the demand of their hot new product immediately after the popularity it has shown after launch day in NA/Jpn/Aus/UK. I'm sure that they have doubled their efforts to produce more Wii's asap.

I'm going to say that the odds are high that by the time the Xmas shortage craze dies down after the first few weeks of Jan 2007, we will see LOTS of Wii's available everywhere. I'd say end of January.

Rumour has it that there might be a price drop in Spring 2007 (within 3 months) to around $200 US ($229 Cdn?), also new colours will be available in addition to the white:

- Red
- Black
- Apple Green
- Silver (or light grey)

Price drop is depending on whether or not the Wii sales are at the same levels as now and also the price drop might happen because at that time, Nintendo wants to push out the WiiConnect24 service.

I am getting really frustrated trying to get one (and i really don't want to line up overnight). I am waiting until the new year so at least there will be an extra unit out there for you guys :cheesygri

Why wait for a Wii until 2007? A few reasons:

1. There may be a price drop once Sony releases some AAA titles like "Killzone" and "Metal Gear Solid" or some other "hardware mover" software. Microsoft will have "Halo 3" coming out. Nintendo has "Metroid" coming out supposedly in either spring or summer 2007, but "Mario Galaxy" is in all likelihood coming out for December 2007 (Nintendo CEO Reggie Fils-Aime has stated a 9-month release window for Mario Galaxy, but it just makes sense to release it at Xmas since that would be a "hardware mover").

2. The Wii Opera browser is supposed to be coming out in 2007, however will only be a free download until June 2007. It may be wise to pick up a Wii in May 2007 to not only get the free browser, but also get "Metroid" which is slated for release around that time.

3. However, Wii Sports may no longer be a pack-in with the Wii in 2007. Some outlets like EB have the game listed separately for 2007, however this may be just the way they catalogue items. This may mean another pack-in. Does this mean that Nintendo may also pack-in "Mario Galaxy" Xmas 2007, or "Metroid", having two different bundles? This may be another reason to wait.

4. In January 2007, "Wii Play" (a collection of fun minigames that is offered in lieu of "Wii Sports" in Commonwealth countries) will be available, and come packaged with a Wiimote! Getting a game and a Wiimote will hopefully be a better deal than purchasing the Wiimote on its own.

5. Sales: Future Shop usually has their online coupon sale twice a year- once at Christmas and once around Father's Day. This would be around May, so you end up saving $15 on the Wii, and manage to get the Opera download as well. There may be other sales, online or at other stores.

6. You don't have to line-up hours or a day in advance in the cold dead of night to get a Wii. This also saves kicking yourself for being impatient, possibly getting sick, or in general having a miserable time when in 2007 the shelves are stocked with the now coveted system. You can cruise on down in your spandex bicycle shorts in the heat of global warming and purchase your Wii within minutes.

7. The only games worth playing are "Zelda", "Wii Sports" and possibly "Raving Rabbids". Wait until more quality games come out, this also allows for the price to drop on older games that were around at release. Who knows, maybe the games that cost $59.99 today will sell a million and become "Players Choice" titles and drop in price to $29.99. Wouldn't that be sweet?

The Wii is a social-gathering system- the most fun is gleaned from the system when multiple people are playing. Don't get on their bad side, though I believe even if you are on their bad side, they'll still need someone to play with them, so really you can't lose!

Well I got Zelda for gamecube so I no longer crave the Wii like a Mad man and since TRU cancelled me, I'm forced to wait till next year anyways. Hopefully I will be treated to a price drop and or a black console. I really want that black one as white tends to turn yellow over time.

Nintendo had previously said 4 million by 2007, 2 million more by March (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=17273). They've recently retracted this statement, so it is obvious they don't believe they'll be able to get 4 million out by the end of the year. So if they can't get meet their own estimates, I seriously doubt we'll be seeing "at least 4 million" by Q1 2007, because that's doubling Nintendo's own estimates, which they can't even meet. And if they start making other colours, production will slow down even more. Unfortunately, I think we'll see a shortage for a good amount of time :(

1. XBox/PS3 are not direct competitors. One is about eye candy, the other party games.
7. Zelda gameplay is fun but the graphics sucks. Still not sure why I bother playing it. WiiSports and Rayman is certainly a blast. Would get MonkeyBalls but no time for another game.

If I recall correctly, both FS and BB don't allow the online coupons to be applied towards the purchase of gaming hardware...just one of a few restrictions on these coupons.
