I need one to control 2 more ATA hard drive and 2 more optical drives under XP (Linux support would be a plus though). There are many cards ranging from 20-200 all with very mixed reviews, usually a couple reviews claiming it doesn't even work! I'm personally willing to spend up to $100 for a good reliable card that wont lose/corrupt my data. Any recommendations? Brands?

Thanks.

What the..... now I have *never* seen an ATA controller card run up to $200 dollars. You can get raid cards for that amount of money. Anyway, the brand of choice for many is the Promise ATA controller like this one here (http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=000400&cid=IO.570). However I have also used cheap $20 dollar ones and they work just as well.

A lot of ATA cards do not work well/support optical drives. I would suggest you use it for the HDs only. Optical drives can use the onboard IDE.

As Cafe_333 said, Promise cards are fine.
