Dell's 12 Days of Deals is back just in time for Christmas! As with past sales, we should expect some great deals on LCDs, hard drives, and other goodies! This time the sale runs from December 7th until December 18th with a new deal every day around 7 AM EST. Sometimes quantities are limited, so it pays to wake up early to see what is on sale.

Saturday number 2 for this round of Days of Deals. Hopefully they'll make it worth getting up for. External hard drives perhaps?

Dell's Days of Deals Day 10:

Dell W3707C 37" LCD HD TV - $1399
Belkin PureAV Power Console and HDMI Cable Bundle - $129
Dell Axim X51v 624MHz Handheld - $349 (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=CAqD7bLWUPI&offerid=88712.353556446&type=10&subid=)

The Axims should have a mega price drop. I kept reading that Dell is getting out of the PDA business. I don't know if it is true, but it doesn't look like Dell will continue with the Axim line anyway.

That was the thinking ... but it may not be the whole truth.

The truth is that the Axim x51v is pretty much top of the line with it's specs. So, Dell basically said they had no immediate plans with the Axim line ... plus the whole converged device thing has picked up a ton of steam so Dell is basically sitting on the Axim pda lineup with a wait and see approach.

However, Windows Mobile 6 has been "leaked" and more speculation has returned with Dell perhaps picking up the Axim line for maybe another run ... we'll see.

You guys seem to be confused...

Dell is NOT getting out of the pda business. The actual news is (well in the summer this year), Dell moved the R&D from pda and added it to laptop.

Last year, it was rumored that dell was going to jump into pda phones but that went down the drain and it was the main reason for them to take R&D out.

It is very unlikely that dell will do any price drop on their pda because compared to the ipaq and palm, there prices are still the lowest and for performance, they are right up there. Axim also is the top selling pda (NOT including smart phones, eg moto q).

I think in the last 6-8 months, dell really only did a $20 price drop on the x51v. The best price for axim was during their price error ($200 for the 524mhz model, not the x51v and 1/2 price off all accessory with purchase of that... they honored the price error since thats when i got one... odds of that happening again isnt so high so dont hold your breath).

Match prices to items:

$1,399 +$400 = $1,799 DELL W3707C 37" LCD HD TV
$129 +$70 = $199 BELKIN PureAV Power Console and HDMI Cable Bundle
$349 +$150 = $499 DELL Axim X51v 624MHz Handheld

349 looks like x51v

1799 -> 1399 = 37"

199 -> 129 = could be a couple things

just my guess.

Edit:
1799 -> 1399 = 37" (banner item)

Other 2 = not updated yet

Edit again:
BELKIN PureAV Power Console and HDMI Cable Bundle 199 -> 129
Axim x51v 499 -> 349 (wasnt it 329 the last DoD?)
37" 1799 -> 1399

BTW: What res. does this TV support? I think 720p, but not 1080i/p? Then again, their spec "Max Resolution 1366x768 Pixels @ 60 Hz" doesn't map directly to anything..

/confused.

McMaggot
Dec 16th, 2006, 06:27 AM
It prolly does 720p at best. Remeber, that 720 represents vertical res so their maximum res covers it, but not 1080.

You can't use it as a "cel phone" per se ... but you can use the wifi along with skype to do that kind of thing.

I'm a total rook with that kind of stuff on my Axim ... you'd best go over to aximsite.com and check the forums there for the updated info.

What I do know is that the native BT stack isn't that great iirc and those guys at aximsite have made their own widcomm stack that works much better for the majority of BT headsets out there allowing you to pair up and do all that kind of stuff. I'm getting away from my area of expertise so I won't talk any more.

I, personally, would like to have a nice converged device that does all what the Axim does along with cel usage ... but that doesn't exist. Getting closer though.

The HTC products are getting really, really nice but will cost you an arm and ahh-noose (anyone seen Borat yet?)

Actually, it IS possible to use your Axim as a cell phone. Just get a CF GSM/GPRS/EDGE, etc. card and put your SIM in it. (You also have to make sure you find one with WM5 drivers.) However, this really not a practical option given the limited battery life. In other words, you would not be able to leave your Axim on "standby" like you would a cell phone or converged device.

yeah there is a case that you can slip the axim into. but you have to take the axim out if you want to use it because it's not transparent or anything. it is a hard case though so it is durable

Just an observation. If you are going to get a Rhino type case, I recommend against the 2200. It is double height, and the Axim will not fit in the case when using the 2200. I have both and seldom use the 2200 for that reason.

BTW: I would trade my 2200 straight up for a 1100 if anyone is interested. I also have a leather (Belkin?) wallet case that I do not use and would let go very cheap.

Unless they changed it the Ax comes with a soft case, not a hard case and you still have to remove the Ax from the case to use it.

Another thing for others to keep in mind is that you may (like many people including me) find that the original 1100mAh battery insufficient and may consider an extended battery.

If you do keep in mind that if you get a hard case you have to get one that's designed for extended batteries. You don't want a nasty surprise in the end.

For info go to cases.com and use the aximsite.com forum discount too.

The only time I've dropped it, it didn't protect my device at all. The bottom corners of the Axim is not protected, so if it happens to hit asphalt road (like mine did) it will get scratched and dented.

The case is rugged, but it is a soft case for sure. There is, at most, a piece of cardboard stitched between the cover. Any pressure on the case will directly be transferred to the screen and potentially crack it. (Personal experience from my previous soft, leather PDA case).

There's lots of freeware available; check sites such as:

And for now, I wouldn't worry about viruses infecting Pocket PCs. Anti-virus checkers are merely memory hogs for the time being.

That Belkin Power Bar is a wicked price, with the HDMI cable. what a steal.
The power bar alone sells for $300 alone in high end home theater shops, and cost from suppliers are about $200. With the cost of the HDMI cable about $80 or more, seriously people it's a steal.

And this is no regular power bar. It actually filters the power cleans it up
and give your TV and audio equipment the power it needs.
So really it should give a majority of the people a noticeable improvement in picture quality. Trust me it works, not only for my self who has a higher end model, my friend picked up this same unit and with a deal paid $210. (Power bar alone). He also noticed improvement in picture quality.

I'm ordering one just for my second TV in my bedroom and use the HDMI also.
Do a search on reviews on any Belkin PureAV Power Consoles and you will see in the review that it does do what it's suppose to do.

Actually thats not a typo, its dell's slow process of changing. They first change the price of the deals for the next day (notice the oringal prices are different too) then they show the item. Using the regular price and sale price, you can generally guess what the item will be for sale (eg, 3k+ regular price can only mean 50" plasma... and thats true since the page is now updated with the item).

If you try to add anything to cart during this process, it will add the old item (for example, the x51v) but at the regular price (499). Once they totally finish their update, you can add the new item (which in the place of the x51v is a dell printer).

Changed to "On vehicle for delivery"...
But then changed to "Delivery Rescheduled" :confused:
There was someone today at home the whole day...
Why is it rescheduled? What does it mean? >:(

picked my axim up today from Puro. good thing they put it in a relatively small box, i hate it when electronics is shipped in a box thats 100x the size.

charging it now. do i REALLY need to wait the 8 hours before continuing to use it (i.e. set it up) or can i start the setup right away?

I'm curious - some of you guys mentioned that it was shipped by Purolator (and some even had the current status/location of the package). Where did you find that? On Dell's order page, all I see is "Canada Post Shipping" and approximate shipping date. :?:

Can anybody confirm that the axim cradle battery status light keeps on flashing green and amber continuously when connected to electrical outlet? :confused:

Thanks.

It doesn't do that on mine. It either stays green or stays amber.

Shouldn't.

- if it's charging it should show amber
- if it's full it will go green
- i've never seen my x51v flash continuously ... check the aximsite.com forums for any mention of this problem.

if you don't find anything mentioning of this then i'd get Dell on the phone and look into (or demand) an exchange. Like a new one, not a refurb, if you bought this unit within 30 days.

Yeah, they sent me a refurb when it was within 10 days that I demanded an exchange. This is really easy to tell, a refurb usually ships from Canada and only includes the PDA, and a shipping return label is readily found inside the box. My refurb had a lot of dust stuck UNDER the screen's top plastic layer. Then I demanded another exchange and it shipped from the States in a COMPLETE retail package. They had to email me the shipping label the second time.
