For those brave souls with experience in lining up in front of a store overnight, I'm curious how that works. Are you allowed to leave the line to take a whiz or grab a bite? Are there self-appointed 'line nazis' who try keep everybody in order? Do people ever sleep? Talk? Play games or music? Or do they just silently huddle in the cold, dreaming of Rabbids?

I've always wondered, what if there are multiple entrances to the store, like at a mall, how do you establish who's first?

And when the store opens, is it a mad rush to the consoles or do they let you in a couple at a time?

haven't lined up this year but for ps2, there was one guy that took charge and gave out numbers to who came in after him as he was 2nd in line. this helped, but the people who came late were bitching.

we had a list of ppl name that line up and before store closed, gave a copy of the list to the store manager so in the morning, he gave out the coupon according to the name on the list.
so we knows each other in the line and can go get food, washroom break etc and came back. we set the rules max an hour.
but not going home and came back in the morning.

basically the manager let us made our own rules among the group

btw that was in fs surrey central 2 weeks ago. ok now who was there that night? those few rdfer behind me

so does that mean if I go to store before it close and write down my name there, I can go home and come back when the store is open?

If the majority of people will all cooperate to a set of rules, it should be OK.
If you get one or a few people bitching about it, no big deal, majority rules, strength in numbers. :D

Of the two big line-ups I have been in, people would save your spot so long as you did not leave for an 'unreasonable' length of time.

During a two-night camp for the PS3, I went home for many hours to $#it, shower and shave, breakfast at Denny's, etc, but I had a tent parked in my spot.

It all depends on the crowd.

I have heard of some lines being VERY hostile, you leave to take a leak, you lose your spot. :(

there is this guy came in the middle of the night trying to cut queue. he told us he will take the place of whoever leaves the line to pee so he said better not pee lol. but then there was 20 of us bitching him and we got the list of name also so he gave up and speed away

then this other guy that came with him asked the name of one of the guy who was in line. then he laughed saying he gonna use that name to pick up the ps3 in the morning. but then he asked the wrong person, a korean and the guy was not asian so we all told him the name didnt even match him, so he left too

At my line, what I did was that I took my laptop and started 3 lists.
Wii, 60GB PS3, 20GB PS3.

I started taking down the names and what they wanted. People were allowed to drive away and come back if it was like for 15 min or so and as long as they left their tent or chair there etc. Basically be reasonable and respectful of the people who are vouching for you.

The list was not only for us, but also to inform people who were coming to line up to tell them either you'll get one...or not, so that they don't have to waste their life standing there.

You never know these days... Go prepared -- wear a bullet-proof vest or at least a thick warm jacket.

I was in line last weekend and it was very orderly at the Best Buy over the Queensborough bridge. 1st in line had a running count of how many had what items so when extra people showed up we could tell them not to waste their time as everything the store had available was accounted for. Some people still waited a few hours prior to opening just to have the staff tell them exactly what we had said hours before. Nothing's left. Sorry.

It depends on the line, but most of the people are friendly. You'll find the occasional drunk or ******* though, but strength in numbers. I met some nice people in front of the BB one time and we ended up talking most of the night. People who are willing to stay up all night for a console end up having similar interests. The scariest people are the soccer moms that come out when the store opens and then ***** and moan that they can't get a console. If your going to camp, bring a friend so they can save your spot. Bring a book, a laptop, an mp3 player or talk to people around you, it's really up to you.

oh and if the people at a line say it's full it's probably full. Just keep driving store to store until you find one.

Ren, i know you got to the Best buy just after the last guy got into line and you missed out. Good job on the PS3 spot donation for the hospital. Me and my friend saw you again in front of EB Queensborough. Good luck if you haven't gotten yours yet. Couldn't believe the line ups tonight there again. Tarp across the rafter and everything!!! :cheesygri
