before mentioning the story, i would like to say my mom is not the brightest person. her company offered her a corporate plan and i told her, do not go apply unless im there, they will try to squeeze other features and whatnots in the contract.

so she decides to go without me and apply...
she gives them the paper and they put the paper aside and say "we got a better plan for you" instead they gave her a crappier one and more expensive. she already signed the 3 year contract. you think if i were to go and complan and state shes not fluent in english, would they reconsider and change the plan?

this is BELL by the way, applied at wireless wave

She should have at least 7 days to return everything and get out of the contract.

they tried to rip my friend off as well.

he went and got a plan and wanted a phone. We knew how much it was on contract but they wouldn't give it to him at that price even if he signed up for 3 years. They then told him that they will automatically put him onto a contract within the week because he already statedt hat he wanted to go on contract. Andt hen they wouldn't give him a phone at all.

I told him to go straight thru rogers and luckily everything got sorted out

I remember at least yearssss ago the Canadian law permits anyone to get out of a contract within the first 30 days to protect the consumers. I am just not sure if that still applies

For Rogers it's 15 days or 30 minutes used, whichever comes first. I am sure Bell has something similar. Just walk in and tell them you want to return it / change the plan.

Getting out of a contract is not an easy thing, but it can be done. For example, both parties could agree to end the contract.

In some provinces and territories, there is an automatic cancellation period for contracts for credit, dating clubs, health clubs, funeral and cemetery services, timeshares, natural gas, electricity and door-to-door sales.

This is called a cooling off period and depending on your province or territory of residence, you may be entitled to one, which may vary in duration. A cooling off period is defined as a specific period of time in which you can reconsider your consumer decision. As a consumer, you are entitled to cancel within this period, for any reason you like.

I think in Ontario it's 10 days, but IANAL.

Wireless Wave is known to be the biggest scammers. I've known one Wireless Wave to sign two 16 year olds to 3 year contracts. The problem is, you suppose to check for ID to make sure they are 18 or over. You can not sign 16 year olds to contracts!

BTW, the guy knew they were 16 year olds, because it was their 16th bday.

They do everything for spiffs, bonuses when they sign you up. This just sounds typical.

How is it possible for any 16 year old with no credit history to sign up for any contract with the providers? The dealer must input the birthday into the system and if they arent at least 18 years old the system will automatically reject them. Not to mention that they dont have any credit so the "fact" that they could possibly have been approved seems fishy. Not to mention if they wanted they could cancel at any time without a penatly since by law they are not legally allowed to enter into any contractual agreements.

Lets say for example, they showed up with their SIN and passport. Corrupt sales rep approving photo ID. The system wouldn't reject them would it? The kids pull out cash, pay the deposit however much it would be, and off they go.

^ok well if it was a corrupt salesperson maybe that helped a bit but the thing is once you input the SIN (assuming they were only using a SIN) into the system, the system will automatically process a credit check on you and verify information with Equifax including your address and age. So I just dont know how they system would have let their age slip through. Ohwell like I said if indeed they were able to get contracts without a deposit that is amazing. If they did have to pay a deposit i would like to know where a 16 year old can get up to $1000 to deposit.

look at the $ 85 credit they are offering at some mall locations to attract shoppers to go inside to activate bell, telus, fido or solo phones but the cellular provider's flagship stores at the same mall does not provide any of these bill credit...so you know what kind of business they are doing ???

contract can be nulled within 30 days... thats legislation

but... there are conditions

provided you haven't used over 30 mins on the device...

this is where the 30 day/30 min policy comes into effect

its whichever comes first

just make sure to call bell after to verify the cancellation of your agreement... my bell rep from wave was an idiot and didn't cancel agreements... instead, customers continued to received invoices and bitched at us even though it was bell's idiot of a reps fault
