looks intentional too. It's seems like it's driven deep into your yard.

On topic:

That's terrible. I would have thought it was some rowdy drunken people. But since this occurred in the middle of the day I believe this could be intentional as well!

Buddy, that is MESSED up. I hope you get the people who did this. WOW!

But I don't understand the reason for driving through a fence and backyard? Perhaps it was a person DIU?

Maybe there were witnesses, neighbours, school kids walking around?

You sure it was not "loss of control"?

No offence, but do you really need an officer to come to your house? This isn't the type of thing police put much resources/time into. There just isn't enough officers or enough funding to solve most crimes like this.

Why not just go down to the police station and get them to do up a report for you there. You'll be in and out in no time and you can then call up your insurance company.

Well if you didn't post this picture on your site it probably wouldn't have happened.

well, I doubt it's intentional since they'd probably do a lot of damage to the car by driving over a rather TALL curb and into a fence with 4x4 wood beams dub 3ft into the ground.

I'm pretty surprised the car was able to drive away after that... the wheels should have been way out of alignment after an accident like that.

Dec 11th, 2006, 06:15 PM
It looks intentional. There is no tire mark on the curb. If a car jumped the curb and hit the fence, it should have left something there.

If it is intentional, this is a serious offense and police should be involved.

do you think somebody on flickr could have gotten pissed off and drove his car through my fence because of it?

because I'd like to think I'm pretty friendly in real life. that was just a poser picture I thought was funny.

Cops HAVE duty to go there and write a report, nobody is going to tell me that they don't have time for this when I see them sitting in parking lots 3 cars at a time for up to 40 minutes.

It can be a pick up truck which was carefully driven over the curb (no tire mark on the curb) and then slowly pushing your fence. It does not need to hit hard to cost that kind of damage.

good point, but why destroy a worn down fence?
Is it so I can claim insurance and get a new fence put up in the spring? are they doing me a favour?

If they wanted to do damage to my property, my motorcycle is parked right outside, so is my car. I think that would have been much smarter than plowing their pickup through my fence.

this actually happened to me before. canvas your neighbourhood and ask if anyone at home at that time saw something. i did this and actually got the license plate this way. also, i don't think this is intentional for two reasons:
1) the lack of tire marks on the curb only shows that the car may have been going at a speed and angle where the tires mounted the curb precisely enough not to leave marks (there are actually some slight marks and several scuffs along the curb, indicating that the driver lost control, then panicked and fled the scene)
2) revenge would usually not entail destroying your own car in the process

also, wouldn't it have made more sense to hit that nice bike in the background?

I think that was probably done out of malice. No way that was loss of control considering the conditions weren't bad today.

I've seen the same thing happen to a house very close to the place I was staying when I was visiting Markham in the summer. Man, what is it with TO drivers? :P

I think the case with that one was it was hit by a drunk driver or something.

i seen this happen around my area, somebody came off a highway ramp and plowed right into a house facing the ramp. nobody got hurt but damn what a mess.

It looks to be accidental. There are no skid marks on the sidewalk, but there are on the grass. The skid marks had to be created by still tires. Therefor, he was braking after he jumped the curb, and crossed the sidewalk.

if someone was to that intentionally the tire patterns would be deep and continuous like that. Looks like a braking skidmark, someone was obviously going too fast and lost control. Do you know how much damage a wood fence would do to a car? Why would anyone do that on purpose.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what's going to happen is that if you put in a home insurance claim, your insurance will go up because your place is deemed to be riskier than if you had never put in a claim at all. The person who hit and ran will say that they were the victim of a hit and run, and they will try to milk their auto insurance company.

Let's say someone did get the plates on the car that hit your fence. There is no proof of who was driving that car at the time. It will be hard to get the auto insurance company to pay you for your fence because they will tell you to file a claim through your home insurance (which would ultimately lead to higher insurance prices in the future). The cops will not bother visiting your place. They will tell you to file a home insurance claim and give you your police file number

I doubt it was intentional probably just a geezer who doesn't need to be drunk to make mistakes like this.

When we were purchasing a grave site / marker we asked if they had any insurance against vandalism. They told us the only incident they had was an "older lady" mistaking the gas for the brake and driving through a few markers. She quickly paid for the damage and apologized.

Blame it on the geezers.

Cops came,
wrote a report,
left.

It's going to be claimed under our home insurance... that's what it's for!
