I am planning to upgrade my 2002 Quicken to 2007. Any suggestions as to who has the best price?
Also is anyone else having a problem with online updates and receiving a "server is unable to complete the request' error?

I've been getting the same error for the past week or two with Quicken 2002. But, from what I can tell everything is still getting updated properly, it just takes a minute longer or so.
So, I'm not sure if they are just having server problems or if they are preparing to lock out 2002 users from online updates, like they did to 2001 or earlier users sometime ago.

If anyone wants the routes/destinations that prevent Quicken from calling back to the mothership and having its online update feature disabled, let me know. I added a few to my router restriction rules awhile back in anticipation of Intuit's planned obsolescence of Quicken 2002.
It's insidious... Quicken's "Contacting financial institution" progress box is actually *after* it's received the information -- it's calling home (to Intuit) to see if your software is still "allowed" to import the data. If it's that dialog that's blocking, it's an Intuit server problem.
EDIT: yes, that's right, you can "cancel" this dialog without problem and all your data will still be imported into Quicken (since at this point Quicken already has the data.)
e.g. in my case since my router silently refuses connection to Intuit's mothership, those dialogs just sit there until I cancel them.
If you ARE going to buy XG, I'd wait until the new year where they'll have the promo where you get QuickTax for free.

RE my above comments... I'm referring to the ability to import data from financial institutions... I'm not really sure how Quicken workds for downloading stock quote updates, etc.
I know that disabling the route to the Intuit server did NOT disable the stock/mutual quote updating feature, so that's via some other channel.

You are right, they are updated (stock quotes, I don't use the bank downloads) despite the error message, I didn't notice that. Thanks.
For some reason 2002 seems immune to the lockout that occurred to 2001 and the 2 year limit that is imposed on the newer versions.

I will sell you my XG 2006 version for $40. I installed it, ran it for a day or two, then went back to 2005 because I lost some of my custom settings (from 2005) in 2006.

A simple spreadsheet would be fine to look after a bank account but Quicken will do much more. Easier to look at their website than try to explain all the features http://quicken.intuit.ca/en/product/ProductDetail.jsp? the sucky thing about all the Quicken versions after 2002 is that they no longer support the QIF format >:( which is why i've held off on updating for so long

Lately I've been getting Error 1761 when downloading quotes.

I thought I was the only one still using Q2002!
Been getting Error 1760: The server is unable to complete the request.
But as stated before, the quotes seem to download just fine.
Too bad there aren't any updates to the FI information - transaction downloads at TD Waterhouse, ING Direct, Achieva aren't downloadable into 2002...

A question for those with versions newer than 2002.
Using an investment account can you schedule a mutual fund, stock or GIC to pay a dividend or interest monthly to the investment account? I cannot find anyway to do this with 2002
Also is there an 'undo' function in the newer vesions. i.e. if you screw up a transaction can you undo and go back like in Word?
Those two functions would be worth the upgrade to 2007, IMHO

I have no problem downloading all my Royal Bank account information into Quicken 2002. Is there some about the specific institutions you list that chose to not support that version of Quicken?

This is hilarious -- I thought I was one of the few still using 2002!!!
Still does everything I need to... I decided not to upgrade after they changed the fact you can only run the software for only a year or two... FORGET THAT!

There is no way to have the transaction automatically entered for investments (at least up to the 2005 version). This, however, can be done for your bank accounts. At least, Quicken remembers regular monthly transactions and will prompt you to enter them.
In newer versions you can edit or delete any investment transaction.

After 2005, all versions are valid for 3 years now. Also, after 2006, they can be installed on more than one computer.

Yeah... as soon as the went to the time-limited, activation-infected "subscription" model I vowed to continue using Quicken 2002 for as long as possible, and not give Intuit any more cash (either Quicken or QuickTax... but then they bought TaxWiz, so they still get my money anyway :( )
Plus, every time I read their "Why Upgrade?" list of new features, I'm completely astonished at how little has actually been added? It's more of a "Why Not to Upgrade" in my view... I mean really... there's nothing new since 2002 except some document management stuff and slightly better reporting.

The main reason I am still using Q2002 is because later versions had Product Activation. I've had to reinstall Quicken on several of my PCs over the years as I moved/upgraded from one PC to another. I just felt that PA locked my Quicken to one PC.
If I am wrong on this, I'll gladly buy the latest Quicken version.
BTW, off-topic but related, can I install and activate QuickTax 200X on another PC a few years from now to review my previous years' returns?
I'd like to hear from others why they are still on Q2002.

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but seems like we have some Quicken 2002 experts here. Couple of questions:
1. Is there a Canadian version of Quicken 2002? Or just the one version?
2. I looked for screenshots on google, but couldn't find too many. Is the difference between 2002 and the latest Quicken really not that great (feature-wise)?
3. Where can I buy a copy? (of the Canadian version, assuming there is one)
Thanks!

XG and XG 2004 activation was similar to Windows XP. In other words, if you did a substantial upgrade you had to contact Intuit to have you device profile reset. This happened to me once or twice and it wasn't a big deal. I determined that reactivation was likely associated with a hard drive change.
XG 2005 does not appear to require reactivation. I change my hardware several times a year and have not had any issues. I assume that 2006 and 2007 are the same.

Yes, there is a separate version of 2002 for Canadians.
Also, Quicken XG is for Canadians. The American version still has the older naming format (e.g. Quicken Deluxe 2007).
The newer XG versions are much better for managing investments. There are a lot more investment related tools to manage your accounts and individual securities.

My version of 2002 has a radio button to select either US or Canada. I beleive newer versions were US or Canada specific Canada is now Quicken XG. You could probably find 2002 on Ebay.

It's actually worse than that... Their activation scheme writes the activation in a special non-file part of the hard drive that applications aren't supposed to write to (which Intuit interpreted as "No one is using, so it must be free, so we can use it and no one will know!")
Intuit can kiss my ass for awhile yet.

I'm using Quicken 2006 XG, and it serves its purpose fine. However, I am still curious about MS Money's version for Canadians... has anybody used it and how does it compare? Does it have all the links for the Canadian banks as well?
