Anyone have any experience using a Canadian ABM card for Maestro debit transactions in Europe?
Are there any Forex commission fees for using your Canadian ABM card to do a direct purchase (debit) transaction using the Maestro system?
BMO gives 5 free debit transactions using the Maestro system if you have their Premium Plan. But would they also charge the same 2.5% forex commission they charge for doing a credit transaction using your Mastercard?

I've tried using my TD debit card in a direct debit situation but it wouldn't work.

I don't think TD is on Maesto though. (IIRC it has the Plus logo, indicating Visa family. Plus CT sold there MC products during the merger so there probably won't be much ties to MC)

Maestro is Mastercard's international debit system. It is mostly in Europe. BMO, ING, and maybe a couple of others in Canada offer it on thier cards.
I'm interested in anyone's experiences, since I want to use my BMO ABM card for debit purchases when I go to Europe next year if they won't charge me the 2.5% forex commission that I'll get charged for making the same purchase with my Mastercard.

When I used my BMO debit card at ATMs in Europe, there was a 2.5% fee.
I used my Canadian Tire 3% cashback MasterCard when paying merchants (3%-2.5% >>> -2.5% ).
