When a stock splits is it usually followed by an increase in share price, or decrease? or does it have no bearing at all.

Just pick a few stocks that have split and look at their prices.

In VERY!!!!! general terms, splits are a good thing. Reverse splits are a negative thing.
Now, obviously, there are examples of the opposite all over.

For many reasons (more psychological than scientific), companies like their share price to fall within a range. Splits usually mean the price has risen above a point that the company wants it to sell at. Voila - a split occurs.
Since they normally occur due to the price rising over time, it's generally viewed as a postive move.

However you should always, always pay special attention to a company when they make changes like splits etc. These are strong signs of something (you don't know whether it's positive or negative until you dig).

from what ive noticed, share price drops shortly after a split, but it bounces back relatively quickly.

side note:
i just had a stock do a 70:1 reverse split.
im pissed off.
