I check their website and didn't see anything such as EMT transfer so I phoned their rep and they said it's true. But PC Financial being mainly an online/phone banking service, I didn't believe they did not offer this service before I signed up.

Is this true?

I don't really know for sure, but why do you think the rep would lie to you?

Not saying that the rep was lying to me. Just that I think she is not well informed. She sounded like a starter.

They do not offer Interac EMT at the moment, i did hear rumors however that they are in talks with CertaPay/Acxsys (The Interac People) and may offer it in the near future.

PC Financial does not currently offer the Interac Email Money Transfer service.

Your options are:

1. You can set up an online money-transfer link between your PCF account and any other personal account in your name at another Canadian bank.

2. You can pay anyone else's credit card directly by just specifying the card number in a bill payment (an option that not many people seem to be aware of)

Only works with the big 5. and for other banks, have to talk to the banks themselves about this service

Well, I want the option of EMT transfer cuz i can send money for online buy and sell trade. Don't really like Paypal service. So I guess I'm stuck using my RBC account as primary again...

It is a shame. PCF should really offer EMT as another feature. I enjoy the service.

I hate PayPal and will never use it.

Even HSBC doesn't offer it. Major reason why I switched out

True, but PCF is completely free... so bare with them a little. I'm sure it will happen. :)

If you are transfering from one person's PC account to another Person's PC account, you can also call the toll free number on the back of your bank card and tell the CSR the person's name and account number. One to two business days to transfer the money and of course it is free.

they can charge a minimal fee for it and i'm sure it won't bother most people.... as long as there's EMT service..

Some CCs charge a percentage of funds taken out as balance transfer or cash advance, even if a bill payment takes place before that. So when it is the case for the recipient's CC, paying someone in form of CC bill payment works only if the recipient never takes out funds as BT or cash.

I feel safer that they don't offer EMT. If they do, what could happen if my online password got hacked and unnoticed for couple days.

I also feel worried that they don't put a daily limit on online bill payment or transfer.>:(

Yup they will. I think it will be around $1.50.

The EMT daily limit is $1000 per day, and around $3000 per week (unless they changed this in the past couple of weeks). And EMT is only available for personal accounts (not business accounts). Not sure why it's not mentioned clearly on the website though.

get an account at a real bank

So you probably pay about 20-30 dollars per month for the convenience of a "real bank".

I pay nothing.:)

Although this has been talked about many times, there is some value to teller service and sales people at your disposal.

i pay nothing for my PCF and nothing for my "real bank" account

many benefits to teller service rather than csr's over the telephone

Most "real" banks offer chequing accounts with no charge when a minimum balance is maintained throughout the month. You don't pay but you fore go interest otherwise earned on the minimum balance.

Some people take advantage of the banks' LOC and use it as hub of financial transactions - unlimited transactions and free cheques, and no minimum (it's a credit account after all).

PC doens't offer EMT at this moment, but since they offer free banking and it must has the downside of it. If not, most of the people might just switch over their current bank to PC.

its true, they do not offer EMT, but they do support a BANK DRAFT service, where the money is transferred to a CIBC branch and u can pick it up there. Alternatively, you can state the name of the individual to receive the money and they have to present 2 forms of picture-ID to verify the pick-up, and they can cash the bank draft.

I bought my car with funds I withdrew this way since they do not have EMT.

Sorry to dig up and old thread, but I've got a question...
How safe is it to give someone else your bank account number?
ie: a stranger you are selling something to?

Yes, it is free. I did it with the Cineplex Group Buy in the Entertainment Section. No fee whatsoever to transfer funds from one PCF checking account to another persons' PC Checking account.

I would imagine pretty safe. All they can do is send money to you, they can't take money from your account with that information I believe.

Worst case scenario, you call PCF and let them know your account has been compromised. You'll have a new checking account immediately set up and you should get your money back if any of it was missing.

With your account info, blank cheques can be ordered\made.

I like that PCF does not have EMTs. Makes me feel safer. Who actually uses PCF as their ONLY bank account anyways.

I do (not including high interest savings account that are online only).
I closed my account with CIBC and no longer have to keep any minimum account earning pitiful interest just to get fee free banking.

Mirx, I wouldn't be flashing it around everywheres, but I also say it is not a major problem because everytime you write someone a check, your account number is at the bottom. Just be careful that's all.

Just FYI you can accept EMT, it just is not automated. You will have to call into the call centre and tell them the email info.
