Is there anywhere where I can get one for free?

I think I used equifax before (about 4 years ago maybe) but I'm a little suspicious with them because every couple of months they send me an email with my password but I never requested it. ??

Are you sure those messages were actually from Equifax? Could be phishing attempts.

I believe you can get one free with your credit card provider. A lot of them offer a 1 month free trial which you will get your credit score and credit report. I have the RBC Avion and I know they have this. PC Financial also has this available. Just remember to cancel after a month to avoid any monthly charges.

I believe there was another thread regarding this... try to do a search.

the quickest and fastest free way to see if you have 'good' credit is to apply at www.sears.ca for a sears card. no annual fee and you get a $10 gift card if you are approved so its worth the time.

if your credit is terrible, it'll say "we are unable to approve you at this time"
if your credit is so-so, it'll say "we'll give you an answer in 5 to 10 days"
if your credit is super clean, it'll spit out a temporary credit card number and credit limit on the screen immediately.

The best way for a free OFFICIAL credit report is by requesting one by mail through either TransUnion or Equifax.

http://www.equifax.com/EFX_Canada/consumer_information_centre/ownreport_e.html

Download and print the PDF file and Mail to Equifax...

You will receive your report within a couple weeks....

They do not provide a score though.

P.S. You can get a free report by mail I think twice a year from each of those 2 companies...

You post this every time someone asks for a credit report :-0

I still don't understand how it helps anyone looking for their credit history? OK - so if you get approved, your credit is good/satisfactory. If you are denied, you may have credit problems. That doesn't tell you much, and if I'm not mistaken applying for a product is a hard hit to your credit.

^ also doesn't report much
it only reports whether you can be approved for their card or not

doesn't tell you who reports to your credit, how often, history...
that what people get their credit report for

Why would you apply for a credit card that you don't need?
the Freebie report from Equifax will give you a the inquiry history and your current credit and repayment history, no beacon scores...
if you have applied somewhere and was declined, i possible ask the lender to explain why?
your beacon score is based on several factors (repayment history, length of credit established, type of credit - revovling credit, payment loans etc..) your BNI score is a bankruptcy indicator, it will change the fastest, based on the amount of money outstanding vs the amount of credit available (so if you only have a 1K c/c & you owe 1K, your bni score will be low... - this is a balance of having sufficient credit vs how much you owe)
the lower your bni score, the risk of bankruptcy is higher, the lower the beacon score, the higher the risk to lend to you, and the less likely you will get the lowest interest rates.
applying for cards that you don't need is not recommended. credit inquiries take off between 2-5 points from your beacon score... finance company inquires take off more (considered as c-class lenders)... if your mortgage shopping, rate shopping, inquiries made usually w/n 7days-14days don't hurt your score too much.

most people don't realise that its a weighted system. inquiries mean little to someone who is an average working person with a few cards and no late payments. the scoring is weighted towards 'questionable' people to begin within.
