I want to start running more and I'm looking for some recommendations on running shoes. I was thinking new balance would be a solid choice. Are there any specific models that work really well? Budget is around $110 but I'm hoping I might find some good clearance deals too. Thanks.

Depends on your foot, gait, height, weight etc.

I'd take some shoes or trainers you currently own ( that have some wear on them ) and take the shoes into some places who know their stuff - like the Runnning Room, Sporting Life , New Balance store etc.

Have them checked out...the staff can also check your gait and posture to see if you should be running on a certain type of shoe as well ( i.e for pronation , supination, stability etc. ).

Go from there.

Don't limit yourself to New Balance. I wear them also and think they're great, but also look into asics, and saucony. I tend to aim towards a neutral shoe - something with great support

Go to a reputable running store and get your gait analysed. They'll run you through some tests and pick out a few pairs that will suit you. Follow their advice. If they tell you your gait is messed up and you need motion control for example, pay attention!

Brand doesn't matter, but most people who put any real miles on their shoes go with "real" brands (New Balance, Asics, Saucony, Mizuno, Brooks, etc) and avoid fashion brands (almost anything Nike, ESPECIALLY shox, inexpensive lines from Addidas, Reebok, that sort of thing)

If you want to be a cheapass, decide on the pair you want, then go shop around for that same pair elsewhere.

Either way, take your time and don't settle. A correctly fitting pair of shoes make a *HUGE* difference. I forgot my Saucony shoes at work a couple months back and went for a run in my garbage backup Nike runners. Big mistake. I just won't run at all if I don't have my shoes with me now. Missing one workout is better than having 3 crappy ones due to pain. :)

Thanks for all the tips. I'll try to keep them in mind while I'm looking.
