Didn't see this posted but I can't imagine it wasn't before. Sorry if it's a repost.

I bought some stamps at Shoppers last night to find out they were on sale again. Book of 10 51cent stamps was $4.60

Just in time to clear out the old ones before they raise the prices again.

I hope you asked for the generic "no value" stamps as they're in post offices already. I just bought 10 on Monday, but had to ask them about it as they did hand me the 51cent stamps initially.

For those who don't know, the generic "no value" stamps I'm refering to are new stamps that have no cent value on the stamp, so you can buy them now at 51 cents, keep them for as long as you want and still use them even when stamp costs go up.

for as long as CP runs the program ;) they have a disclaimer that they can kill the no value program at any time.

I think you got lucky. They are lowering the price to clear the 'old' 51c stamps. 10% off those "Permanent" stamps is a screaming hot deal !

I got the permanent stamps too from Shopper's...

I actually picked up some 51c stamps last week from Pharma Plus, and a Canada Post outlet let me trade them in for the new permanent stamps.

Guess I don't need to buy stamps for a while now... :D

Rates are going up a penny next year, but Canada Post has said that you don't need to put a penny stamp along with your old 51 cent stamps to make up the difference.

Penny Stamps are on the way out.

If you're going to need stamps in the next year, get the 51 cent stamps.

As pointed out elsewhere (and in this thread) the 51 cent stamps will be useable for full postage even after the rate increase. In fact, you can use them to mail a letter (with no extra postage) until the end of 2007.

Canada post has actually been selling "Permanent" postage for well over 2 years now. They have been doing this with pre-stamped envelopes and it has proven to be quite popular.

Yup, but it's only recently that they made the permanent stamps, sold as stamps.

I'm pretty sure they're not going to cancel this program as someone stated that CP as the right to at anytime since the whole reason in doing this is because it costs more for CP to make 1 cent stamps than it is to just sell them at a permanent price and make consumers buy 1 cent stamps to make up the difference.

Penny Stamps have ceased to exist.

for the past few yrs dealing w/ MIRs, i've had quite a few leftovers of the prev. yr's stamps which were 1c less than the newly increased price.

i've managed to mail stuff w/ the older, prev. yr's stamps w/o the need to add 1c stamps to make up the diff. :)

I am still wondering .... Will "50c+1c" work as 51c (which = 52c) in 2007 ?

prbly will.

but the PM savings isn't really much... $5.10 vs. $4.60 - diff. is $0.50 -> save $0.05 more

I was considering this for giftcard use rather than the 110% PM ... but every little bit counts ...:)

I forgot about the postal outlet. I went on Sunday and the postal outlet was closed, so I just got them from the cashier. She didn't have the permanent stamps :( so I got the 51cent stamps.

Oh well, at least they were on sale.

I'm sure it will. They don't have an automated way to read the amount of postage anyway, so regular letters only get rejected if a postal employee happens to notice insufficient postage. I'm sure they won't nail you for being one cent off.

I doubt it. They (Canada Post) are probably only granting exceptions to the 51 cents STAMPS, NOT the 51 cents POSTAGE. And how about my "48c+3c" then?

YOU can do that?
That would be really sweet!!! :)
I baught 5 booklets of stamps from Staples in October. If I could trade them in for the permanent stamp that would be convienent for use in the new year.

Went to Shoppers Drug Mart at Royal Bank Plaza and TD Plaza and they will only sell 2 books of 10 51cent stamps at the sale price.

So I bought 8 books, through 4 separate transactions and went to the Post Office at TD Plaza to see if they will exchange the 51cent stamps for the No Value ones.

At the Post Office, the lady said that she could exchange them if I had a receipt, so I pulled out the SDM receipts and she freaked out because the stamps were on sale and in her mind stamps are considered currency.

She then checked with her manager and apparently the 51cent stamps are good till December 31, 2007 and Canada Post will honour the postage as long as it's for domestic mail.
