Just heard it on the radio. A Canadian now owns the MVP in 3 of the 4 major sports.

Thats an upset of sorts. Everyone thought it would've been a two horse race between Ortiz and Jeter. Can't say Morneau doesn't deserve it, he finally answered his critics by breaking out for a career year, and he should have similiar seasons for years to come.

It should've went to Jeter.

the Twins won 1 less game than the Yankees.. and Justin Morneau had 'way' better stats than Jeter down the stretch..

Morneau basically carried the Twins to where they ended up at the end of the year

Earning just $385,000 in his third season as a regular, Morneau proved a bargain. Philadelphia's Ryan Howard, voted NL MVP on Monday, made $355,000.

interesting how the two MVPs don't even account for 3/4 of a million in salary

to be fair, these guys are still in their first contracts which is similar to rookie contracts in the nba and nhl...
morneau should win...better stats than jeter, ortiz has better stats overall but he's DH....DH should never win any type of award where its voted...

Yay for Canada!

Although I still think Jeter should have won it...

Shhhhhh.....quiet, I think I just heard the whole country say "Who???"

Sad but prob true, the average Cdn is prob far more familiar with Jeter Ortiz or Thomas than Morneau.

Sad, but yes, probably true. I'm not sure about Thomas until his recent signing, but a definite possibility with Jeter and Ortiz. Now I look like a genius in my few fantasy keepers league :D

Thomas fell off the map for a few years to be sure, but c'mon who hasnt heard of "the Big Hurt"? :)
Point taken tho.
His recent signing reminds me too much of when the Jays bought Henderson and Canseco. MLSE style signings just for the expected revenue from the jersey and merchandise sales.

I'd be interested in seeing how someone would do in a fantasy league if they attempted to maximize all the Canadian content, and maybe threw in a few Japanese players as well (just to round out the bench). :)

I thought Jeter was going to win it for sure. With Morneau, Mauer, then Ortiz. This is definitely an upset. But Morneau was great so this is awesome for Canada!

ok...I AM EXCITED!!!!

I have been pimping Justin Morneau for AL MVP since early August.

My Morneau authentic Twins home #33 just arrived in the mail last week.
