I have done some reading here on PC components to get for a close to $1000 price tag. I was looking at some articles and think this is pretty close.
Intel C2D E6300 - $219.99
ASRock 775Dual-Vsta - $77.99
OCZ Value DDR2-667 2x512mb - $149.99
BFG 7900GT OC - $279.99
Antec Sonata II - $119.99
Seagate 320GB - $127.00
(Canada Computers prices)
I intend to play games on the machine, do graphic work and movies.
What is your view on this setup and if there is anything else that I should look at at this time. I intend to purchase this from NCIX or some other good computer place.

Try adding more ram ... 2 or 4 GB would be nice.

2G is max on that motherboard.
It has 2 DDR and 2 DDR2 slots, but can't use both at same time.

if you want to save some money, get a 7900gs for 199$, and put the money you saved into a better mobo... gigabyte ds3, p5b-e..etc

I third. If I were you I'd buy a used 7800 gt on RFD for about $200
I just went conroe and so did my housemate. He didn't have a lot of cash so he went with the mobo you're looking at. I had a bit more money and got the P5B-E. I'm running 3.01 stable, he's running at 1.9(hahaha). We both have the 7800 gt. I have DDR2 800Mhz ram, he has my old OCZ ddr ram. We both get 100+ fps on counter strike source. We can both play BF 1942/2142 no problems. It's enough to play the games out right now. However the DS3 or P5B-E is leaps and bounds above the vista board. You probably wont notice that much of a difference between the 7800gt and the 7900 gt.

Disagree 7800 vs 7900.
7900 put out less heat, and use less power then the 7800. They run a lot quieter, and they are faster then the 7800's. Something to keep in mind.

Another option is the X1950 Pro.. it's nicely priced right now and outperforms the 7900 gt I think (not 100% sure). Just as an alternative to nVidia..

ok - interesting - would then upgrade MOBO to gigabyte ds3 or p5b-e
will upgrade RAM to at least 2GB
with the videocard - the PCI-E - I would rather get an ATI if better for the same price than the 9800 GT at same price?

why have mobo with AGP on it?
seems a waste.
2gb is preffered these days.

"ASRock 775Dual-Vsta - $77.99"
(1) Is this a good mother board?
(2) Can run both DDR or DDR2 ram?
(3) What other brand of motherboard can run this too?
