Hello hello,
my first blog entry ever... and the reason!! the Wii!!! seems exciting enough to warrant it. Been looking forward to this day STUPID with excitement. Woke up early, lined up in the chilly morning infront of Wallmart... stood outside for hours.. was number 23.. of the 36 available at my location. Got my Wii enjoyed the company of those in line with me. VERY EXCITED!! big bearded man.. giggling like a schoolgirl!!
take it home. make a Mii!!! good times..
play ZELDA!! for like 20 minutes.... little brother wakes up, so i suggest some Wii sports.
play that for a bit, my friend mike shows up.. more sports.. simon shows up.... we're 'bowling' at hte time.. he bowls a few frames with us... BOOM!! FREEZE!! BLACK SCREEN!! OH NOEZ!!!!!!!!!! lol
and now all i can get is black screens... ITS BROKE!
called nintendo of america.. he said based on what i told him, nothing to be done... they're sending me a new system and i'll get it in 5-13 business days. frankly.. the most disapointing event ever. Very upsetting.. not feeling so hawt.
On Nintendo's part.. their customer service was excellent.. the guy was super friendly helpfull and sympathetic. so A+ to that guy! Also i'm getting a years subscription of nintendo power... waiving shipping fee on the wii replacement etc etc.... sounds like he did what he could, and as i say couldn't have been nicer.
He says i'm the first person he's heard from who's had this issue... but who knows. SO THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS!!
probably one of the first reports of a BROKEN Wii!!!!!!!!!
~to clarify this is one of my really good buddies rants on his myspace but thought it good enough to post here.

played for maybe 20 minutes in total, only on for about 5 minutes when this happened. Doesn't seem very likely.

Why are you going through Nintendo? Take it back and get a new Wii today. Don't wait 13 days.

You're not alone actually:

Maybe the first in Canada? Who knows. But Nintendo seems to be doing an excellent job at replacing them. Free shipping replacement plus free goodies for being patient.

it cannot be a heating issue....we played for hours today and the console was cool to the touch....unless you put it in some confined area...then maybe.
ALSO...BB and FS always have more systems than posted...around 2-5 more than they are selling....just as back-ups for returns and such

curious: why?
Why wouldn't they sell them for a profit? It's not their responsiblity to replace the item the same day if they don't have it.

did you have to shipp your wii out, so when they receive it, then they will send you a new one?? is that how it went ? are you just sending just the wii console?

Ouch one day after launch and already some lemons? I don't think this is good but kudos to Nintendo for handling things so well. It seems they learned from Microsoft. :)

hmm... can't we just call in, report that our Wii is broken, and then they will send us one. No running around to every store to search for it. Of course they will ask you for your CC to charge you if you don't return it, but just get charged and get a Wii! No line ups! :cheesygri

WHY?!?! Why? not Weeee? everyone is saying Weeeeeeeeeee
btw, tell nintendo to send you two units just in case if it broke. Tell them that you are the first one in the world to RMA a WHY and treat you a little special bonus.
so you can smash it or keep it or sell it ... lol!!!

You can't really dismiss a heating issue *completely* just because you didn't encounter heating issues. That said, mine's in a sort-of enclosed area -- inside my tv stand. It sits on top of a receiver (that was powered on) and has literally < 1cm of clearance above it -- no issues after 5 continuous hours on launch day :)

WiiConnect 24 Update Breaking Systems?
Be careful what you wish for, you just might get a broken Wii.
by Micah Seff
November 20, 2006 - We have received word from numerous sources that running the initial WiiConnect 24 update on the Wii has had a tendency to cause a recurring error code. Several error codes have been reported so far, but the most prevalent of them are 110213 and 32002. We contacted Nintendo about this issue, and they filled us in on what you should do if you find yourself in this predicament.
Currently, Nintendo has two options in place to resolve the problem. If you do not have any data saved to your system that is important to keep, then you can contact Nintendo customer service and they will ship a new console to you in 3-4 business days. However, if you do have important data saved to your system, then things get a little trickier. Data like game saves and Miis are not disastrous to lose, but Virtual Console data is. While Virtual Console games are re-downloadable should you delete them, the data saved on your console regarding which games you have downloaded is tied to your system. In this situation, option #2 is the way to go.
Option #2 requires that Nintendo send you a shipping label which should take 4-10 business days. Once you receive the shipping label, you can use it to send the console to Nintendo for repairs, after which they will send it back to you. Sadly, this process takes 8-12 business days, meaning that if you choose option #2, you will be Wii-less for a good long while.
Nintendo could not comment on how widespread this problem is, but did say that they are currently looking into fixes that can be done without Nintendo replacing or repairing the console itself. If you find yourself receiving either of these error codes, or any others, please visit Nintendo's customer service website.

I can smell fraud if nintendo doesn't require you to return the broken wii to them.

well for one...I guess it's GREAT PR....but really? keep extra stock for these scenarios? Never heard of this. Wonder how many of these hidden stock are lifted by employees for themselves anyway :cheesygri

well it's a balance right. I think Nintendo didn't expect ANY duds., and so is countering with this seemingly overtly generous replacement procedure-to keep their GREAT PR up. Perhaps in the new Wii's pkg there will be a return waybill of sorts?
