I would never put my eye infront of a bank of white/blue LEDs... If you really know about the LED constructions and how these days white/blue LED are made. You will not do that at all. Basically, these LED emmits UV and excited the phosphur to make it becomes either white or blue.
I am very worry about a lot of people buying this one....

I wouldn't worry, no one will buy this anyhow.

while I don't know the details... for example, whether UV light escapes the actual LED... but in principle, don't flourescent light bulbs work the same way?
Nothing intrinsically dangerous... just if the UV light escapes?
Mind you, this is a completely uneducated view.

Not doubting you entirely but do you have a source for this. Would like to learn more. Thanks

That makes sense as there is no coating on the bulb. Wheres your source.

Hey, 2 post OP... Read these and rethink your argument
Wikipedia Article on LEDs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-emitting_diode)
Wikipedia Article on Light Therapy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_therapy)
If you have information that conflicts with ether article I've posted, by all means post it up.... If you got nothing other than your opinion, take a moment to educate yourself.

I saw one of these units in Costco the other day. Even if the LEDs happen to emit UV they are behind plastic which I'd assume (if it had to be) would be UV treated.

Why post this bunk without doing some research. Check out this website:
http://www.apollolight.com/golite.html
and look on the bottom - it states UV FREE light.
I used one of these when I was working in the Arctic last year (24 hour darkness) and it worked like a charm. I didn't get a suntan, I'm not blind but it certainly cured the lack of light I was receiving up there.

I really need something like this. I think i have Seasonal Affective Disorder, the rain and greyness of Vancouver puts me in a seriously depressed mood. Apparently light therapy can help relieve this.

Try Sylvania Daylight light bulbs. They are just ordinary light bulbs with a coating that filters the light to make the colour temperature look more like daylight, but it seems to work well. They do look like daylight, and the light output of the bulb doesn't seem noticeably less than a non-filtered bulb.

The fact is these are fine if you use them the right way.My dad work up north 12 days a months and due to the lack of daylight alot of people have these units. To add he was told by his docter to get one.
