Ok looking for some advice from the computer experts out there.
I recently upgraded my Dad's Socket A processor from a Duron 1.4 to a Athlon XP 2600+. His mobo is a Asus A7V8X-X and he has 512MB of RAM, running Windows XP SP2.
Everything appears to be ok after the swap. I was able to use the Internet, Word, run CPU-Z, wireless etc.
Except any time I use a Windows Shortcut combination that I have mapped to an application (i.e. Alt, Ctrl + C), the PC freezes. Can't press Alt-Ctrl-Del and I have to power down the PC.
I have done a Scan Disk, up-dated Windows with the latest updates, defragged.
The PC was running perfectly fine with the Duron before. I was able to use the Windows Shortcut combinations. And the Athlon XP 2600+ is fine as well as that was my old processor and I never had any problems.
The CPU is currently running at 11.5x166 = 1909 Mhz. I also tried a lower setting of 1500 Mhz.
It isn't a big deal but I thought that was so curious. I really don't want to re-install Windows XP. Temperature is fine.
Any thoughts?
