CompuSmart has the WinTV-PVR 150 PCI TV tuner on clearance for $79.88 and the WinTV-GO plus PCI tv tuner for $39.88. Some stores also have the WinTV-PVR USB2 Tuner on sale for $79.88. ATI TV Wonder Pro Remote Edition is also $99, which may be a good buy.

Thanks for the headsup.

I picked up a PVR-150 (regular for XP) for $79.

There are 2 more left @ Scarborough and they are both MCE edition.

I set it up labor-intensively, got the IR blaster to work and it is way cool, though the video and sound recording quality is not quite as good as the Leaktek PVR2000.

However, this is a must-have TV-card for set top boxes.

What is the main difference between the 2 Hauppage cards?

PVR150 PCI comes with remote but its not an MCE remote.
PCR150 MCE has an FM Tuner (required to be called MCE) and does not come with remote (you're supposed to use the MCE remote that comes with your MCE computer)

Oh ya...I automatically assume difference between standard and MCE which is what everyone always asks. :)

Definitely don't get the GO.

This may be a stupid question...
Will the MCE version work on regular Windows XP? And Can I buy a remote for the tuner seperately somewhere?

Yes and yes. But I recommend using MCE anyways. Its slick. I prefer it over SageTV.

Any comments on the USB tuner? Having a USB will be convenient for a laptop, but would it give you not as good quality as the PCI cards? And is the USB tuner equivalent to any of the two PCI cards in terms of functionalities?

The USB version is the same as the WinTV-PVR 150 PCI version (same hardware encoding) and works quite well. I'm using it with Orb to broadcast my tv signal over a network, and the picture and sound quality is very good.

In terms of function, WinTV-PVR-USB2 = WinTV-PVR-150 MCE.

WinTV-PVR-150 does not have a FM radio receiver.

I have both...the USB2 (for 1.5 years) works very well right off the get go, even with the drivers on the accompanying CD back then. This thing is big in size though.

The 150 I just bought was put in another computer because I needed to play with set-top-box channel changing by the IR blaster. It is an extremely cool feature! The quality was not good (especially the sound) until I used latest updates and even beta drivers/software and now it equals the USB2.

I just bought the Hauppage USB 950 today at BB with the F&F discount.
Works great on my Laptop - Sempron mobile 3300+ (2 gig CPU).
Good off-air HDTV signals in mid Mississauga.
Get 9 HD and SD TV stations (mostly) with the elcheapo antenna supplied

Beside antenna, does it also accept TV cable input?

will my 1.4G centrino be powerful enough for regular TV?

Yes, it accepts regular analog cable.
Your CPU should be OK on regular TV.
On regular TV, my 2 gig Sempron CPU hovers around 50-60% usage.
Q: Why not save a few $ and buy one that handles regular TV only?
