Nice price if you PM with either FS or BB. BB has a $10 gift card for free with purchase as well but it's YMMV if you get it PLUS PM.

FS: $49.99
BB: $59.99

PC Mag has this as their editior's choice this year. Decent reviews and good suite since AVG is going to be paid only this January and ZA isn't that robust anymore.

I wouldn't take this if it was given to me for free...my opinion on their products....

I pay for NOD32...and it's worth every penny. Fast, reliable, accurate scanning....you really don't need all the bloat that Norton puts in their products.

I have used 2006 a fair bit (free trial) and I will base my opinion on that.

But this program works... but it will slow your PC down big time. Updates take ages and almost always require a reboot of Windows. Installing 2006, I had to reboot/update about 4 times, and from installation to fully updated took 1/2 hour on a state of the art PC. Not cool.

For this reason, a big 'Thumbs Down' and not recommended.

I believe only the version 7.1 (free) is discontinued. Version 7.5 (free) will remain free. Please correct if it's not the case.

GRISOFT is announcing a new version of the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. This new 7.5 version with improved performance and full compatibility with the latest Windows Vista version is available. Users that are using AVG Free 7.1 will be provided with a specific dialog, within the next few weeks, with the opportunity to choose the right option fulfilling their needs. AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 15th of Jan 2007.

I am currently switching from AVG v7.1 (free) to v7.5 (free) one system at a time.

Say it ain't so! Free AVG is vastly superior to this Norton product and I have been using it for years.

The price is good if you really must have Norton. But why when there are better products, and free?

About software magazine 'ratings'.... Symantec often advertises heavily in PC publications and I have a hunch that might influence the editors rating of their software a tad... ;)

I know the feelings for Norton isn't top notch around here. This was then for the benefit of those that would like to still use Norton over other products. The bloat is substantially smaller and the program runs really fast on most modern PCs (I am running it now, after stopping at 2004).

Do a google on the reviews and you will see that the suite isn't a bad one this year, better than most of the other retail suites out there.

Flame all you want but if you are "offended" by a deal, you need to get a life. Some other people might actually benefit from this.

TD Bank seems to offer me 90 day trials of Norton every year. I will download and try 2007 if it is offered again for free.

If they fixed the slowness, bloat and need for constant reboots it would be good software. Like many people though, I was not impressed with 2005/2006.

If someone is set on buying Norton, the price is the best I've seen. So your post is helpful and useful and thanks for it.

My university offers free Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition and updates for its students, though I have used AVG for the last 2 years.
but if anyone is interested, I can try to dig it up for you ;)

I agree, however for off the shelf suites, there aren't many that are very good. Most you have to download and purchase online, and not sure how many users actually do that (majority of those that post, minority of those that simply read).

I see on the box... 1 year protection... for up to 2 PCs? Or is that 3 PCs? I didn't know the license allowed you to install it on more than 1 PC. This deal just got warmer...

The three user license (AV updates) will expire on all computers one year after installing on the first computer.

I gave up on Norton products long ago. I currently use Avast (http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html) and I'm very happy with it.

I agree with many others here, I wouldn't allow Norton bloatware on my computer if you paid me. It's not that it can't do a good job, it's that:
a) it hogs system resources excessively and slows your system down
b) it's a complicated tangle of way too many obscure features and options instead of just a few simple tools doing a simple job
c) it keeps nagging you for more money to keep it up to date
d) it's impossible to remove cleanly from your system when you decide to replace it (as you surely will)

There are some excellent free packages that do as good a job. All things being equal, I wouldn't mind paying for a well-maintained product, but Norton Internet Security has too many drawbacks.

Norton works. It's not the best, but it works. My boss has it and wanted to keep it, and it took me forever to convince Norton that the subscription had been renewed (it had). So now I can't wait for the subscription to end.

To me, the best paid AV is Kaspersky because it handles all kinds of malware, with NOD32 close behind due to its advanced heuristics. Many people rank these as the top two, though some prefer NOD32 because it's lighter on resources. Avast is the best free AV. I know I've had AVG miss things.

One thing that isn't often published, is you can update many AV subscriptions for 2 or 3 years at reduced rates. Kaspersky charges twice the yearly rate for 3 years, iirc.

But yes, if you must buy Norton, and like to have the box, this is a good deal.

A good site to discuss and learn about AV, firewall and anti-malware software is www.wilderssecurity.com.

I haven't seen any Previous User Upgrade Rebates on the 2007 version as in the past editions, have they stopped this?
