View Full Version : Rude Asian lady, or just no respect towards teens?

Ok, so my parents are out, and left me some cold rice for dinner. I had nothing to go with the rice, so I went to the chinese supermarket across the street for a can of fish. I'm a teenager, and I'm no hoodlum or anything, I wore a polo with a puffy jacket over it, and did not look like a trouble maker or anything.
So I grab my can of fish, take out a toonie, and hold both of the items in my hands. I am pretty much ready to pay and just leave. So i walk up to the cashier who is serving a large family, so i wait in line. One asian lady (a See Lai if you know what i mean) came to the front, and look at the line beside mine only to find out it is closed. She was carrying about 5 items, and was holding a credit card, not cash. She LOOKS at my items which is a can of fish and a toonie, and she just cuts right in front of me.
What the hell eh? I am only going to take two seconds to scan and pay, and yet you think you will get out the door that much quicker by getting in front of me? I didn't want trouble, so I let it slide. But I was angry nonetheless. And yes, she took a hell of alot of time to pay by credit card, and then having trouble swiping and everything making me wait longer.
Disrespect against teens?
Or are asian women just plain rude?

you shouldn't generalize it as ASIAN women. I'm sure it is a DL(Dai Look) women.
I've seen non-sense like that before. I was going to do something about it but my parents stopped me.
And once, I saw a DL lady complain over a bag to the cashier to hold up the line. What the cashier did was take her jug of milk out of the clear plastic bag and scan it but didn't put it back in the bag. She complained all over that.

Why didn't you say anything? I usually say *sweetly*, as if they weren't aware, that the line actually starts back there (or goes in this direction behind me). Sometimes it truly is difficult to discern whether people are in line to pay or just standing around. I don't think I've ever outrightly accused someone of cutting in front of me.

yeah a lot of asian women are always like that, i don't see any asian males cutting in line at the chinese supermarkets. one time a lady tried to cut us (me and my bro) in line and her husband was trying to convince her to wait at the end of the line but she wouldn't listen. well we blocked her from taking our spot anyway. next time it happens, just take your spot back.

It's hilarious how you tell him to no generalize ASIAN women when you, yourself generalize them as DL women...how do you know that they're DL? Do they have tags?
As for the OP, perhaps the women thought you were part of that *big family* in front of you :|

i dun think it has to do with the ethnicity of the woman...i mean i've been cut in front by diff. people..men, women, seniors, youngsters...you name it
they're just plain rude
one time i was lining up and this lady just went in front of me..she was behind me..and she didn't even turn around. she just went in front of me and said " i dun feel well, i might faint. i need to buy this and go home"...the cashier immediately told her she couldn't serve her (gave her an excuse like "i can't do this price check etc")...and she had to go to the next line...then the cashier turns to me and tells me that this lady does this everytime she's there..
the funny thing is, when the rude lady had to go to the next line, she then noticed that I was the sick one..i'm 7 months preggers and was feeling a bit sick to the stomach and wanted to faint...she looked embarassed and none-the-less had to wait in the longer line..

oh ok I get it, if a person is from mainland China they must be unsophisticated and rude. Do you not detect your blatant racism? If you replaced DL with black, that wouldn't sound so great, now would it?
Where you come from doesn't make you better than someone else. Your holier than thou attitude just perpetuates animosity between people. Your time could be better spent realizing your prejudices rather than creating a thread here.
Spelling and grammar aren't perfect, but I'm just so angry that Canada, the land of tolerance, has imported racism.

I'm not trying to be ignorant, but it's true that lots of people from the Mainland of China don't have very good manners... it's just a fact. Every country has a different social/economic background that influences how their citizens act.

You should NOT have let it slide in the first place, that is also the reason why some people jump lines on a regular basis.
Yes, those line jumpers DEFINITELY choose their "victims", and you could guess they won't do that to some Harley-Davidson kind of guys. And being small (age and size) is a disadvantage which you need to wait and grow out of.
Last but not least, it's NOT about either ASIAN or WOMEN (not to say Mainland Chinese women). You just met a rude person. That's it. DON'T discriminate CATEGORICALLY, or you'll fall into that same trap created by the racists and/or sexists.

BS. You're angry at the inevitable. Canada is bringing all these different cultures and you expect them to assimilate immediately and be tolerable to other races that they're not familiar with? hell no!
Racism/generalization/discrimination is a built-in mechanism in each person through evolution (in my opinion). See, a long time ago, there's a group of people, half of which were mutated in one way that made them able to generalize. so one day, the group of people started hunting some deers. unfortunately, one lion was nearby and killed one of the people. The next day, they hunt again. They spot another lion. Half the people who were able to generalize stayed the hell away from the lion and the other half, not so smart, continued their activities ignoring the lion. Then the lion killed the latter half. So the remaining half reproduce and pass down their traits.
Without generalization, we would be extinct. In fact, we are using it right now - everyday. Think of the boiling hot water. without generalizing, you would go touch every pot of boiling water to determine whether it's hot or cold.
Of course, there are people that are able to overcome these primitive responses against other human beings but do u thiink everyone canada imports is like that? and how would you test it?
To say that canada imported racism is inevitable. And being angry with it is naive.

At the Bramburg Food Mart sometime back.
It wasn't a chinese though. It was a white lady. I was at the express line with my mom and we had 6 items (express line is supposed to be 5 items or less). But remember it was TWO of us in line.
Anyways, this lady comes up and gives me this *look* and says.. this is an express line and just cuts right in front of me. Haha
I just tapped her on her shoulder (didn't want to punch her.. too many witnesses)... and said "Lady, please get behind the line. Coz even if I was over the 5 items limit, you have no goddam business cutting in the middle of an express line."
I think she was shocked that someone would talk to her like that. She probably thought I would let it slide.
I don't think the people behind me in line noticed what happened till I spoke to her loudly and then another guy two spots behind me spoke up. "What the f*** do you think you are doing? You think you don't have to line up like other people?"
By now everybody was looking at her and the lady had to get out from in front of me and murmered something about me not able to read signs about the 5 items limit and red faced had to go and line up at the back of the line.
I felt good that day. Put the B**** in her place.

stereotype: it's the Hong Kongers who are rich and rude
I saw a Hong Kong woman yelling at a mainland Chinese middle-aged couple and she chased them out of her store here in Toronto (Markham)
Apparently, she was rude to them because they were from mainland China and supposedly had no money to spend at her over-priced store
Mainland Chinese seem quieter, in general, than Hong Kongers
Depends on the area i guess
Mainlanders just dont get along with hong kongers

I think there's a critical difference in social behavior between Asian women who were born CBC/Taiwanese/Hong Kong/Singaporean and Mainland China.
IMHO, women born in HK, Taiwan, SP, Canada are generally more polite than women born in Mainland China. Asian women born in Mainland China like to look out for only themselves whilst Asian women born in other places have more consideration for others.
I recognize that I'm making a mistake in generalization of Asian women. I know that there will always be Mainland China women who are extremely nice and HK women who will be the worst bitches that you will ever encounter, BUT from everday life in Scarborough, it would appear as though the generalization is somewhat true.

I thought that stuff was banned due to it's links to cancers. Maybe it was just banned in Asia, I don't remember exactly. I've still got a few cans...Mmm
We can't deny that there's lots of racism within a race, especially minorities like Chinese people (Oh Russell Peters, so observant).
I just have to rant on Asian fobs in high school to post-secondary. I find them extremely annoying and unthoughtful on crowded busses, move the hell down the bus, or move out of the way of a subway door.
Toronto has many problems with it's so-called great multiculturalism, the problem is that those cultures clash constantly.
Only in Toronto can a fob not have to learn more than 10 words of english and still get by, I find that there's something wrong.
And I think that CBC people (especially the guys) have the roughest time, we're still given the damned racial stereotypes and too gutless to have a spine to talk back, especially with out parents telling us to be kind to elders and so forth. The problem is that those elders you respect in public aren't supposed to include the rude ones like the ones who cut in line. Give them a piece of your mind and be rude as hell when dealing with them.

You should have confronted her. No point getting upset after the fact. Let it out. She should learn people won't tolerate that kind of disrespect for society's rules. You can confront her without having to do anything rude on your part. A simple tap on the shoulder (or a bonk on the back of the head) to initiate conversation is enough along with an "excuse me"

Unless I'm wrong. Some cantonese people are mainland as well. Hong kong is part of the Canton province in china (which speaks cantonese).
My dad (HK) hates mainland people. he thinks they're barbarians. when someone can't drive and is chinese, he says he looks like a mainlander. lol!
Ironic since most mainlanders hate Hong Kong people for being snooty. I would know, my parents are from there, but at least have manners.
