D Cell .. aren't those the big old expensive batteries? Funny the flashlight doesn't look so big in the pics.
I'm thinking of getting another one that takes AA batteries. Like this :

LED are the super bright ones as i recall. Should be better quality than those cheapo ones on eBay and that other HK site i forgot the name of.

I believe this 3D flashlight is the same size as the security guard ones you see on TV. It doubles up as a weapon as a whack with this thing is deadly!

In a pinch the 3D size makes a great club. Have one in each car.

Mag is *the* leading brand for higher-end flashlights (police, security, etc...)
The cool thing is that this is their first LED model, 3watt, able to focus.
The LED *conversion kit* alone (to add to your existing non-LED Mag) runs $20 by itself.
Fact it runs on D batteries mute point--1.5 volt output (same as AA) but last much longer than AA--particularily with LED).
I picked one up as they don't go on sale that often.

Mag is not the leading brand for higher-end flashlights. They are absolutely horrible - strictly consumer-grade. The only thing they are good for is striking; however, the 'cons' of carrying an enormous 4lb. flashlight far outweigh the 'pro' of being able to whack someone with it.

I know the Toronto Police Dept use the mag light (have friends in the force).
I prefer the Inova T series of lights as their build quality is better

I have a 6+ year old 4D traditional bulb (this was before LED flashlights). I agree, it works great as a club! :)

This is a 3W Luxeon LED, not your typical garbage 9-20 LED flashlights.
I bought the 3D for security reasons as well, and it should last much longer than the 2D, and 2AA.

Its on sale again this week. (Dec 9th to the 16th)
I picked up the 3W 2-AA Maglite, and holly molly, this thing is BRIGHT! I have an older 1W Luxeon 4-AA light, and this is MUCH MUCH brighter.

I'd wouldn't use that, it's direct driven so the intensity drops as those huge alkalines lose juice vs a regulated/chipped one that keeps the same intensity for x hours before dimming

The best part, a flashlight is normal to have in a vehicle, so if you go into a rage and grab the nearest thing, it is not considered a weapon but quite effective at calming someone down.

No clue where your getting that from. Mag's are only consumer level products. You will never see them being used by professional who depend on their flashlight. If you want the leader, check out SureFire for one.

IMHO: I think they (mag) were leader....15 years ago...
while other company surefire and inova invested on new technology (LED and Xenon), MAG werent releasing new produtcs.
Again, i'm no swat or army ranger. just a flaslight addict :cheesygri

you guys kill me. for $35 the question you have to ask is it a good buy? all these other brands may be better but do they have flashlights of similar (or better) spec for the same (or less) price?

ledshoppe lights are cheap and just crap. I find the Surefire brand and the Inova LED series to be far superior in terms of build quality and brightness.

If you need that much light, just invest in a box of para flares. Never have a problem with darkness again. hahaha

you're right, for 35$ for a 3W LED, that's HOT!
BUT I think we were pretty much arguing about MAG being THE leader in flashlights.
as for ledshoppe vs inova, well, you get what you pay for!
Sorry for the threadjack :|
