Just see the new item special on SoneXPC.com
http://www.sonexpc.com/?mod=home

They listed the price for 8800GTS 640MB PCI-E - $549
and the price for 8800GTX 768MB PCI-E - $729

How's EVGA Brand ? any people have EVGA Problem with these kind of high end card? :?:

I want to wait for the ASUS one seems the price range is so close.

I call them because seems both card take 1 - 2 days to order.

They say they only have 5 8800GTS and 2 8800GTX but is all backorder for system build.

And have some more coming in next wednesday. But is very limited.

Anyone have bad experience with EVGA? Seem ASUS even don't have a ETA date yet?

EVGA is probably one of the best video card manufacturers. The last generation had some problems, but it was across all 7900 boards not just EVGA. They have really good support and a lifetime warranty on the cards [even if you put your own cooler on it, it is still covered!]
Their site is EVGA.com
ASUS video cards don't have nearly as good as a reputation as EVGA [Asus is a motherboard manufacturer, while EVGA does just video cards]

not a deal. as posted above, DC is probably the cheapest place around for parts. if you're really leery, price match at ncix.

as for eVGA, they're one of the best card companies out there imo. who else lets you rip off the heatsink without voiding your warranty?

Pretty good for local pickups, actually. 30$ off ncix on gtx and 20 off on gts. 10$ more than DC doesn't seem that much for local vs online retail.

There were rumors that some EVGA cards (g80 series) were defective and were showing early signs of artifacting going on anandtech and dailytech, but they seemed to have fixed the problem (if there was one) when EVGA released the statement that all cards should be working perfectly on monday.

"Statement from EVGA: "EVGA overnighted on Monday November 6 the "New" e-GeForce 8800GTX to our etailers for the launch. It works perfectly and I guarantee it.” said Andrew Han, President and CEO of EVGA. "

I hope you're right about eVGA.

I bought a 7900GTO a little over a month ago (invoice dated September 29th), so trade-up program here I come.

*shrug* don't take my word for it.

i thought about the step-up program but i'm not sure if it will be any cheaper due to the shipping costs, potential tax at the border, and of course the longer wait for your card to ship out.

id say sell your GTO and buy 8800
EVGA website is out of stock for 8800

last time I tried to trade up(7800GT to 7900GT) I had to wait maybe month or more and by the time my number was up, local 7900GT price had dropped so trading up was not a better deal

After looking at the prices at DC, I think you're absolutely right; the price there has already dropped below $700. The MSRP at evga.com is $649.99USD, and presumably they charge the MSRP?

I just finished writing a review of Leadtek's 7950 GT video card and even that card can handle everything games have to offer today. There is no sense buying any of th G80 series cards yet, becuase you won't even get to use them for their true benefit -- DirectX 10. The performance advantage over current series 7 of and ATI X1000 series vid cards is hardly noticable in games.

My advice, take it for what it's worth, is to wait a while. Early 2007 Vista will be launching which means you can finally utilize DirectX10 for games that support that. That's when these new video cards will actually become useful. Also early 2007, January I believe, ATI will release their R600 series of cards which will also support DX10. Competition = lower prices. On top of that, there are no DX10 games released as of yet. There are lots in production, but the earliest release is said to be 2007.

Simply enough, you are paying a premium now for a card you won't be able to fully utilize until 2007 at the earliest. Let the market calm down a little, then make your purchase.

If you must buy a card, I'd wait for the cards to be reviewed first. Some brands of the 8800 GTX are selling for $650 others for $800. If the performance difference between the two is 1%... is it really worth it? Hope this helps. I am very very excited about DX10, it's going to put PC gaming reign atop the pedestal once again, even before the PS3 launches.

Hope this helps.

In general, I agree with you. Except that with a 24" monitor, most cards have some difficulty running well at the native 1920x1600 resolution, especially with games such as Oblivion.

In my case, I was going to wait until after the release of the G80 to perform an upgrade, but conditions dictated that it happen sooner. So I purchased a 7900GTO with the intention of using eVGAs step-up program; this expires at the end of December. On the other hand, other posters have pointed out that this may not be the best approach given the ancillary costs. This leaves open the option of selling the GTO and buying a GTX/GTS, which removes the time constraint. However, now I'm faced with the prospect of owning a rapidly depreciating asset...

Yeah, I've heard the step-up program isn't all that flattering. I'd say sell it pre-christmas bonanza if you can, and buy an 8800 GTX/GTS, ATI R600 card or 8600 card (when they come out). You're right, I forgot about those people with big monitors and dual screen LCD's who are forced to play at high res's.

If you guys want to know what to expect from the 8800GTX in regards to current generation games, Anandtech has published a 29 page review. I believe they ran their tests at really high resolutions.

I go to Sonex in richmond today. They are building 3 system using eVGA 8800GTX for their customer, and I tell them I'm interest in one of those. They show me some demo, and they also show me the review in Tom's hardware.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/11/08/geforce_8800/page12.html

I'm using a 6600GT with AMD 3500+ and Acer 22" 1680x1050 LCD now, lucky didn't go to SLI.

As I phone to them yesterday, they told me they can backorder one for me on next wednesday for $729. I ask wheather they can match Directcanada.com price for $719, and I show them the web site.
:-0 is only $696 on the web. Just Drop $20 overnight ?

Do you know what they say?....No "PM" .... but "PRICE BEAT BY 1%"
Because I buy the whole system from them.

So finally I get the card for only $696*0.99=$689 :D

Save $40 total.

that review is horrible, "test setup - fx-60"...

just a heads up if you are getting a whole system build for you by sonexpc...be careful, customer service is non-existent once you are out the door and they got your money. i have had some bad experiences with them back in the days when i was a just starting to learn about computers.

I am dealing with Micro Concept before, after they closed down.
I change to SoneXPC for almost 3 years now, and I was refer to them by an instructor in Kwantlen.

And I refer couple of friends to them. All very happy with their services.

For me so far so good, may be bad luck for you. :)

I disagree with your statement. People with the Dell 3007s or any 30" LCDs will want a G80.

3 groups of people

1. Dell 30", Aplle cinema HD, or any other 24" or higher screen.
=> people who can afford such an expensive monitor, are likely already running 7900 SLI or X1900 CF. Sell existing and upgrade to G80/G80 SLI is "like getting oil change" for these people.

2. Folks with 17-19 maybe even 20" LCD. Perhaps still clinging to 7800, or already up to X1800/X1900/7900 series. Usually running something like a GT/XT.. these folks try to run close to the bleeding edge of technology, but with budget in mind.
=> COD2, Prey, FEAR, Oblivion.. all the benchmarks shown are for games these gamers have long ago finished... G80 is just temptation, but in the end not economical.

3. Folks who aren't sure what size or make model of their monitor is and are sometimes seen playing Sims or WOW.
=>G80 who?
