My colleague just got married the past week & we were just chatting bout wedding etiqutte, etc...she's from India...i learned some pretty interesting common etiquette today :)

1) apparently it's pretty expensive to "have daughters" (in her words)cuz the parents have to pay for the entire wedding...lol
2) bride's parents have to buy literally "everything" for their daughter...cloth, jewelry, appliances, kitchenware, cosmetics, etc etc etc...apparently some parents even buy cars!!! :-0
3) after the couple is married, the bride is groom's to take care of (well i guess that's relatively non-news in other cultures too)...including house, food, clothing, she says literally everything (so better pick a responsible guy...lol)
4) after the wedding the bride has to wear these bracelet looking pieces on her wrist...my frd is wearing 66 of them!! :cheesygri
5) in order to "see" the bride for the first time after the wedding (cuz she would be wearing a vail that cover her face), the groom has to give her a piece of jewelry (my frd's hubby gave her a beautiful ring)

anyhow, thought it was pretty interesting :) would love to hear bout other culture's wedding etiquette if u guys wanna share

I remember my first Indian wedding.. did you try the ice cream? :D

I've never had ice cream with garlic and onions until that day, and I will never forget that moment.

wowow!...i always thought bout myself as advanturous when it comes to food, but i guess i do have to draw the line somewhere :cheesygri

actually i saw an episode of Ham On the Street on foodnetwork last week & the host was being very advanturous with ice cream...there was one with sauteed onion, one with blue cheese, one with cheddar, one with garlic...apparently the onion one was relatively well received...lol

I was best man at my friend's Chinese wedding and I had to "sing" (we will be charitable here) in order to gain entrance to the bride's house. Then, we had to answer a trivia question.

Interesting...I kept calling for a battering ram in order to expedite matter.

Traditional gift for Indian, Chinese and Italian weddings is money.

Other cultures consider money to be a tacky gift.

I actually think money makes sense, I mean it's something you need, especially after getting married.

I'm getting married in a couple of months and my finacee and I are expecting cash as the gifts. Most people give enough to cover their meal and then a little extra, or more depending on their relation.

I think my finacee will be getting "house" stuff at her shower.

What i dont get is how western people think money as a gift is tacky....
I mean isnt it tacky to get the same damn socks, ties, and sweaters every year for christmas?
or the same Toaster, salt n pepper, and Ceramic monkey set for every wedding?

Traditional gift for Indian, Chinese and Italian weddings is money.

This is why the Indians, Chinese and Italians shall rule the world.
