I'm getting some PMs so here are some answers:

It is not buffet style, but all you can eat "AYCE", meaning you order, they then make the food for you and you repeat the process as much as you want. At Sushi on 7, drinks and dessert are included. They have sushi, sashimi, and LOTS of cooked items! The menu has almost 200 items. So, if you are tentative about raw fish, there is still alot to choose from!!! No, I don't work there, but I'm there enough. I should get commission.

Price on a Wed for dinner I think is 17.99 + tax and tip. Don't forget the coupon, which will take another 10%.

haha, ya, but if you eat the expensive stuff (shashimi/sushi/soft shell crabs), we will have a higher "dollar-value-per-cubic-inch" (DVI) in your stomach, which is what a lot of people try to maximise when going to an all you can eat

i personally perfer sushi over shashimi tho, ya it lowers my DVI, but I find that shashimi on it's own is a little...plain?

But I notice a lot of people are saying tentative this, tentative that. I think Sweetnlow should set a deadline to confirm attendance, say Sunday at 6pm....so that gives Sweetnlow a chance to confirm attendance at Sof7.

If anyone wants to join after the deadline, too late but they can always make it out next time.

I'm not sure about Toronto but I'm pretty sure that in Vancouver it was regulation for restaurants to freeze their fish at a certain temperature if they are going to serve it raw. It's suppose to kill bacteria or something. This was like ten years ago so I don't know if this has been changed.

tapewroms, roundworms can be found in all meats, so fish is not the only culprate, the raw nature of any food, meat, chicken, pork or fish increase the probability that you will get sick from it, cooking kills off alot of the worms and other stuff. But if you eat a medium rare steak or hamburger you run the same risk, pork even higher than fish. Most fish used in suschi has been frozen for transport and this doesn't kill anything.

As long as you go to a reputable restaurant I think you shoud be okay with eating sushi and sashimi. I would be wary with eating sushi and sashimi which is "on sale". Always check out the display if the ingredients they use are fresh and if they actually use the ones on display. If the fish meat look sick and has a fishy smell then don't order it. If it looks fresh but they grab something else hidden in another container then cancel your order. Here's a link on how to determine if sushi fish is fresh.

I think in Vancouver you could probably get some fresh, non-frozen sushi but apparently in Ontario (according to Ministry of Health), almost all seafood served as sushi has already been frozen.

Kind of makes sense given our proximity to the ocean? Not really sure, I guess you could get some fish from fish farms....

same, it all started for me when i cliked into a link on someone's post about how to properly eat sushi or smthing, then i saw a pic, that's when the craving began

anyhow, i just realised, 7PM? that's so early, it will be a lot better for me (and two other people that i can remember of) if it's a little later, and plus, it'd be better if we starve a bit more :razz:

Awwww, thanks djphat for your concern for me. For the record, I really hope this meet is not about cheap horny people. Just cheap, sushi-loving people who want to meet new people and make new friends. And, trust me, there is not much to stare at, so don't bother. And yes, that would bother me!!!

Also, everytime I've gone to a meet, everyone has been very nice with everyone else. We're all jokers, so for all the people who have never meet me, please know, as Najibs mentioned, that it's all in good fun. I need some humour in my life.

Once a month, RFD group gets together to try a new restaurant. We can mix it up, uptown and downtown...just to be fair to everyone.

I try to stay on top of the Restaurant scene in the city and I get discounts via email for a bunch of places. We should invite Trueno so he can write reviews.

well it depends.. theres a body treshhold when it comes to the motabalism depending on the person...
eg if ur hungry and dont eat for a long time your body will slow down to compensate.

But if u time it perfectly..... it can actaully work to your benifit.
The only problem is that your motabalism will cause a "spike" causing poor motabalization of the nutrients you binge on :S

Shame, I haven't been on RFD for a while otherwise I would have signed up. Oh well, it's my birthday on the 22 and I'd probably be going out to a bar afterwards and puking sashimi all over the place if I did join the sushi meet.

Anyways, this should be a regular thing. I'd be more than willing to join the next sushi meet. Personally, I like Kuni-ya on baldwin downtown. Good food AND good service, which is rare for these places. I went there just last week and had some pretty amazing salmon and white tuna sashimi.

Err.. some people have their math wrong:

$17.99 * 0.9 = $16.19, before tax.
$ 2.27 - 14% tax
$1.62 - 10% tip
------
$20.08 (or $20.73 with 15% tip)

Personally, I usually round to the nearest dollar (up or down).. so $20 or $21, depending on how much you want to tip (unless they force you to pay a certain percentage.. )

My suggestion is that ONE person from each table be in charge of summarizing the orders for the table so the servers don't get overwhelmed and we get accurate orders quickly.

Your math is wrong...in reality, they don't time tax by 1.14. They times it by 0.14 and then add it to the sum, so it makes a difference:

tips after tax (or your method):
17.99*0.9+1.1*1.14=20.3

tips before tax
price after coupon = 17.99*0.9 = 16.19
tips on 16.19 = 1.62
tax on 16.19 = 2.27
total = 16.19 + 1.62 + 2.27 = 20.08

The proper etiquette is to calculate 15% tips on the price excluding all taxes....this is if the service is OK, if the service sucks, 10% tips and if the service is awesome 20%....

If anyone does make the mistake of going north on Kennedy, make a left on Unionville (after the car dealerships), then a right at the stop sign, then a right on Hwy 7 and S on 7 plaza is almost immediately on the left! My little shortcut.

Also in the plaza: a vet place, an audio place, sweetheart cafe, a comic book store and (i think) a pizza nova.

My two cents: traffic will be improving by this time anyway, though not the best still...
0.5 take Bishop (from the Kiss n Ride)
1. take willowdale north (or Maxome)
2. pass steeles
3. right on grandview
4. left on henderson
5. right on john
6. you can make the left to go north on bayview ore leslie if you prefer to 7 and then 7 east
OR
7. you can keep going east on john which turns into esna park
8. make a left on alden (watch out for a speed trap here)
9. left on warden
10. right on 7

EDIT: Leslie might be better than Bayview if you wanna just take one road

Haha, I believe someone else put it best, I'm like a marathon runner in eating. Really though I had like an eating plan, I've been to so many of these I know how to get my moneys worth, like with the free coke :lol: You want to avoid the fried stuff in the beginning so stick with the sushi and sashimi for a while then go for the cooked and fried foods, and near the end I like some noodles in soup as the soup helps settle the stomach a bit...and then ice cream! and most the important tip, pace your eating!

I learned to stop by "controlled" falling (to avoid uncontrolled descent down the hill at very high speeds..). :D Didn't hurt or anything at the time.. but I was sore all over when I got home :D

If you guys do a ski expedition, you guys should do a weekend getaway at whistler, i heard there was a massive snow dump there....and then the vancouver and TO folks can do one massive RFD meet (and I can possibly drive up there too)
