My printer broke down and I had to print an 8-page document. I saved the PDF file on my flash drive and went to the Business Depot near Midland/Steeles to get it printed.

10 cents a page, no problem.. then I was told I will be charged $1 for the "rip fee" i.e. the fee for opening my file on the flash drive to get it printed.

I just think that is RIDICULOUS... to be charged something as tedious as opening a file. What a way to "rip" us off!

I think it's pretty ghey too, I mean come on it's not 1997 anymore, two clicks ain't worth a dollar.

it's not about the money... the point is that they would charge money for something so... tedious - OPENING A FILE on the computer!

if that's the case, they should charge money for clicking on the mouse, or walking to the printer.

If you were a business, you'd probably do the exact same thing. These days everyone is out there to make a profit.

why go to staples to print it? Most local copy shops dont charge to print off memory keys.

should have just asked them to right click on it to print it. that way they wouldn't have to open the document. :)

Wow, they decreased it. A couple years ago it used to be $3.

Yeah, it sucks, especially for printing only a few pages.

Maybe you're paying off their anti-virus software, since they're opening files for people day and night without knowing ...

Call them up and ask, I'm sure they've got an explanation somewhere!

Haha no. Maybe the scam artists around here, but the most of us would just wait for a hot deal at Dell or something.
Refund after using it? You'd have to be nuts.

.. first he would PM with staples, send in the rebate then return the printer to future shop for a full refund.

dont some copy shops have self print centers i know of a couple.

its like the whole self copy or they copy for you theres a 2 cents difference some times if they copy or you copy.

it really is 2 clicks but the fact the person has to do something. i'm sure if you gave them a diskette or anything else the charge would still be because they had to do something. next time go to a self serve or ask a friend or family member you know to print out a few things.

It's probably a way to stop people comming in to print just one page or two.

they make a lot more money by doing big orders as it's the same setup time to print 2 pages as to print 200.

Look at ticketmaster. 2 clicks are worth tons of money. They charge $1.75 to email you a ticket and no one clicks anything because its autotmated. And thats on top of the convience/service charge. I hate those bastards...

If you can get a computer at the library, it might be cheaper to print it there :?:

All the local copy shops match staples plans where I live. I rasterbated all over my walls in my house and it cost be about 25 cents a pop for a full colour outlay.
